The Eagles completed their triple play with a hard fought 7-4 win over the Cobourg Cougars in Cougar country Monday night.' Playing three games in three days was a sure way for the Eagles to getin shape fast and you can be sure the locals worked off their thanksgiving turkey. The Cougars, with several. rookies in their lineup, did their best to spoil Eagles' new coach Bob Spooner's home- coming. Spooner is a Cobourg resident along. with tramner Terry Olinski. Eagles had a big first period, outscoring Cobourg four goals to two and outshoot- ing them 22 to 7. Don Farrow continued where he left off Sunday night, scoring Eagles' first goal on a long, low drive after Kirk Kemp had trapped the puck at the blueline Cobourg tied the score while they were a man short with John Conboy scor- ing from Randy Sugdrive. John Conboy scored the Eagles' go-ahead goal set up by Nick VanSeggelen and Ralph Cryderman, a delayed penalty go. The Eagles powerplay click- ed when Jerry Johnson beat the hard-pressed Glen Davis set up superbly by Gary Dusseldorp and Don Farrow. Eagles Powerplay tlicked again on a point drive by Rick Scott assisted by Jerry John- son and Bill Prentice. Cobourg's Larry Lansdry scored on a low drive from the sharp angle assisted by Wayne Ronabeck and Mike Ryan. The second period was a very close-checking period with only two goals scored. Eagles' Kirk Kemp blinked the red lîght on a perfect passout from Wayde Preston after Gary Dusseldorp started the play. Gord Shayne scored a shorthanded goal for the Cougars assisted by Kyle Campbell and Shawn Furland. The thîrd period saw Cob- ourg cut Eagles' lead to one goal with Bill Simpson scoring from Richard Tyson and Gord Shayne 1 , The Eagles were showing',signs of tiring.1 Captain Brian Simpson scored the, insurance goal for the Eagles, setting in the shot by John Conboy, the veterans exhibiting thiçir experience. The Eagles won ail threeý games, defeating teams from Beaverton, Port Hope and Cobourg. Saturday night in Beaver- ton, the Eagles played their first league game and hung on for a 10-7 win in a match which could be described as not a classic might for both goalies. Beaverton Goalie Ron Spence- ly faced Don Nicholson of the Eagles in Saturday's hockey action. The Eagles jumped to a quick two-goal lead early in the first period with Ralph Cryderman scoring from John Conboy and then Rick Scott from Don Farrow. Beaverton tied the score on goals fromn Brian Shaw assist- ed by John Myers and David Longhurst assisted by Tom FarreII.ý, The second',periud scoring saw Gary Dusseldorp put the Eagles in front unassisted. Beaverton tied the score on a goal by Scott Arbuthnott.' The Eagles moved ahead on a goal by Nick Noswenko assisted by Gerald Brunt and Jerry Johnson. Then Jerry Johnson found the target assisted by Bill Prentice and Gerald Brunt. The Eagles' scoring continued with a goal by Ralph Cryderman from John Conboy and Brian Simp- son. Beaverton cut the Eagles' lead on a goal by Mike Farrel from John Myers and the Eagles scored a late second period goal when John Conboy scored with an assist from Wayde Preston. The Eagles picked up their final goal of the night when Nick Noswenko scored from JOhnCnboy and Nick Van Seggelen. John Myers scored the sixth goal for Beaverton assisted by Brian Shaw and Tom Farrell. Brian Shaw picked up Beaver- ton's seventh goal late- in the period with an assist from Tom Farrell and John Myers. Beaverton is a new team which should do well as the season progresses. The Port Hope Kinsmen Panthers were in Bowman- ville Sunday night for the Port Darlington Marina and Hotel home opener. But the Pan- thers were no match for the Eagles who chalked up a 9-3 win.' George Cawker is back again as coach of the Panthers and to use the words of Manager Andy McLaughlin, Port Hope will be no lower than fourth place tis season. Andy is usually as good as his word. Don. Farrow was the big marksman for Bowmanville in this game, scoring four goals maînly on the strength of quîck release shots. Farrow also had one assist for a five-point night. The Eagles built a seven- goal lead in -the first two periods and7-then relaxed in the third with Port Hope scoring two powerplay goals along with a shorthanded goal. Ralph Cryderman started thé scorintz assisted bv John Conboy who broke down his wrong wing before passing to Cryderman. Nick Van Segge- len also assisted. The Eagles were enjoying a two-man advantage when they connect- ed for their second goal with Don Farrow getting in the shot by Brian Simpson. Jerry Johnson also drew an assist. Kirk Kemp gicked up a Don Farrow rebound, scoring Eagles' third goal, a low hard drive. Eagles second period scor- ing started with Dan Strike assisted by Ralph Cryderman and Jerry Johnson after sustained pressure on Port Hope. Gerald Brunt scored on a rebound from a hard wrist shot by Bill Prentice who assisted along with Jerry Johnson. The Eagles- sixth goal by Don Farrow showed nifty puck control. Farrow scored on a backhand assisted by Gary Dusseldorp and Brian Simpson. Farrow's third goal was a low shot along the ice set up by linemates Kirk Kemp and Gary Dusseldorp. The third period scormng was started by Gerald Brunt of the Eagles with assists from Jerry Johnson with both players showing excellent forechecking. Panthers Captain Chris Bul- len scored on a low shapper which beat Bob Koczalub who moved out to challenge the shooter while Panthers had a five-on-four penalty advant- age.
