On Tuesday, November 2lst the fal one meeting for Zone 3 of United Cooperative of Ontario- was field, in Green Towers Motel i Port Hope with over %k of the delegates fromn the Zone i attendance. There were eight delegates from Lindsay -Branch and three from Durham Coop (Orono). In the province of Ontario, the area is broken up into 9 zones for representation pur- poses with Zone 3 consisting of the counties of Frontenac to the east, Lennox and Adding- ton. Hastines. Northumber- Iand, Clarke Twp. of former Durham County, Victoria, Hialiburton and the southern portion of Nipissing District. The incumbent director of Zone 3, Mr. Cliff Allen, who farms near Gleninirnie, north of Kingston, chaired the meeting assisted by Mr. Ernice Miller who is Director at Large for Group 1 repre- senting members from Northern and Eastern Ontario, The Director's report consisted of pro- vidinz a financial report for the year and an activity report. The Financial Report Smile if you think you'ýre in shape. showed an increase -i dollar volume of 64% million dollars with a 12.8 per cent increase i assets and an increase in membership of approximately 2,000 members to 44,651 members. Lindsay, branch again led the province - last year 450 new members, this year- another 258 new members. Mr. Don Huff who is well known in this district having served as area manager with residence in Lindsay for several years, provided the U.C.O. Management Opera- tions Report. Fertilizer volume reached an ail time high, the Livestock Marketing Commission continues to handie 39 per cent of stock- yard volume. Petroleum and heating oils volume down due in part to efforts to conserve energy on farmi and in the home. Grain Marketing increased its volume handhing by 61 per cent or 10 million bushels. Poultry processing at Tend R. Flox had a dramatic turnaround iprocessmng earnigs. The progress of the new deep water' grain terminal being bult in Chatham area was discussed. U.C.O. net profits although much better t han last vear are are bemng Channelled into the Reserve Fund for Capital expenses rather than dispos- ing of them through Patronage Dividends. Various new prograins to be initiated were discussed including a continuation of existing Build- ing Leadership Skills program. I have a brother Jeff who will be four' on January 23rd. My proud parents are Gerry and Susan McDonald, Bowmanville. My very special grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Milford McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Sam VanCamp, Bowmanville. the election of a director for Zone 3 to Provincial Board. Nominations by ballot provid- ed four candidates - two of whom declined their nomina- tion. Candidates for the elec- tion included incumbent Mr,. Cliff Allen who has served the Zone for three consecutive three year terms and Harvey Malcolm, Delegate from the Lindsay Branch with 14 years experience on the local board. Each candidate was given two minutes to provide a resume. On completion of the counting of ballots, Harvey Malcolm was declared to be the new Zone director to take office, immediately following this year's Annual Meeting in Toronto on December l2th. Harvey thanked those who supported his candidacy and expressed the appreciation of all local Coop members to Mr. Cliff Allen for nine years of dedicated and conscientious. CH YSeR
