Mrs. Nettie Buter remains a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. In Memorial Hospital, Bow- manville are Mr. Greg Gray, Sam Powell, and Don Parker. Mr. Ross Embley continues as a patient in Kingston General Hospital. Sympathy is extended to the friends and family of Mr. William Nicholson who passed away last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gar- rod Jr. enjoyed the weekend in Montreal. Many Newcastle and district residents enjoyed the Oshawa Barbershoppers pro- gram, Remember When, at the Oshawa Eastdale Colle- giate on Friday and Saturday evenings. An added feature this year was the singing of the Sweet Adelines, their tribute to Charlie Chaplin. Mrs. Fran Wright and Mrs. Mary Garrod vis ited with their brother, Mr. Charlie Brereton 'last Friday. Mrs. Gladys Wood enjoyed Sunday evening dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Reid Wood Newtonville. Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding entertained the Ladies Euchre Club last Monday. Mr. R.K. Williamson and Roberta, London were Wed- nesday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Burley were among those friends who attended the retirement dinner and dance at Cobourg Lions Centre on Friday night in honor of school bus drivers, Mr. Sam Geach, Kendal, and Mr. Melville Samis, Port Hope. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wood, Oshawa visited on Saturday with his mother, Mrs. Gladys Wood., Attending the Kendal Card Party on Friday night were Mr. Bill Morley, Mrs. Florence Ferguson, Mr. Arthur Clarke and Mrs. May Burley. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoar enjoyed Saturday eveniag in Toronto with their daughter, Frances. lst Newcastle Scouting News Our Father and Son Banquet was held on Saturday, Jan. 13 in the Newcastle Community Hall. Presiding at the head table was Master of Ceremonies Denton Massey. Also attend- ing were Mr. Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. Mr. Bill Clarke region- ai couacillor, Mr.Tony Cie- ments, host and group com- mittee Chairman, Father Hickson and Mr. Phil Hay- man, Lions' Representative. Mr. Hayman presented the group with a Scout of the Year award in honor of the late Mr. Charles Megit. Mr. Megit had dedicated 25 years of service to scouting in Newcastle. Following a delicious turkey supper, a magician supplied entertainmeat for the boys. On behaîf of the boys I would like to say "Thanks Moms" as the entire banquet was organized, prepared and served by our own Ladies' Auxiliary for the first time. That evening a fund-raisiag dance was held la the hall, which proved favourable. A hardy Scout handshake goes out to many local merchants for their charitable contributions to both the Banquet and Dance. Feb. 19 to Feb. 26 is Baden Powell week. United Church News World Day of Prayer for the various churches wil be held in Newcastle United Church on Friday, March 2nd. The Hi C members are holding their Pancake Break- fast on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the Sunday School Hall. Communion was celebrated at Newcastle United Chrîrch on Sunday, Feb. il. The theme of the Sermon by Rev. David Spivey was that the basic rules of 'Christian living are found in the Sermon on the Mount. The Prayer for the week is: Help me to see' my whole life as being lived for you Lord rather than beiaig segregated into a sacred part and a secular part.
