Durham College to Stress its Entertainment Administration Course Next Fall, Durham College wll be emphasizing its program option in Entertain- ment Administration in its Applied Arts Division. The purpose of the course is to train students to assume positions as administrators and managers of a wide variety of entertainment industry organizations. These inelude large national touring companies in music, theatre aiid dance; entertainment facilities such as theatres, arenas and night clubs; com- munity orchestras, concert associations, little theatres, art galleries and museums; and entertainment manage- ment and booking agencies. The course stresses administrative managerhent, marketing and public relations skills. Students will be familiarized with a number of arts activities including theatre, music, dance, motion pictures, television and radio in order to provide a general orientation to the arts. This will also assist them in selecting second year field placement, and in making career choices upon gradua- tion. A strong emphasis in this Entertainment Administra- tive option is placed on practical field work. Through- out the program students will be required to attend a number of entertainment events. There will also be a number of field trips, and in the second year of the program students will be required to commit a mini- mum of 16 hours a week to working in an entertainment organization. Entrance requirements for the Entertainment Adminis- tration program is an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma. Preference will be qiven to students with a demonstrated interest in the arts, and we suggest that al applicants visit the college if possible to discuss the program with the instructors. Durham College Marketing students are conducting a project which will be of assistance to Durham Region teachers in regard to adoption of educational texts and mat- erials. On April 24 and 25 they are presenting a book display in the Durham College main cafeteria from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. featuring books and materials offered by leading educational publishers. They include Mc- Graw Hill, Prentice Hall, Hait Rinehart, Ginn and Gage, with over 24 publishers in total. There will be over 70 tables of book displays and the students are also assisting as sales representatives for some of the participating publish- ers. Co-ordinator of the pro- ject is College Business Div- ision instructor John Holt, who has spent several years in the text publishing field, both in sales and national sales man- agement. In addition to elementary, high school and college teachers, the staffs of area libraries are also being invited to the Durham College edu- cational book display. Several award winning displays were displayed at the Bowmanville Mall. One interesting display was a miniature solar heated green-house. But, Steven Kay of Bowmanville found the plasticine creatures to be his favourite. Either you or your proxy voter must present an official application for a proxy certifi- cate to the Returning Officer of your district, as soon as possible after the voters' list is posted - but not later than Friday, May 18th. An applica- tion form is available from the Returning Officer. An elector may act as proxy for one other elector - but the names of both must be on the same list of electors in the same polling division. The proxy voter can cast his own vote on election day as he cast the proxy vote. Those who expect to be absent from home on election day normally will vote if possible at an advance poll or at the office of the Returning Officer. Advance polls are open 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 12th, Monday, May 14th, and Tuesday, May 15th. Persons of advanced age, who are disabled or ill, or have reason to believe they will be unable to vote on election day are the main categories that qualify for advanced voting, provided their names are on the voters' list. If you will be unable to vote in an advance poll or on normal election day, you may vote in the office of your district's Returning Officer - from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - on any day starting Monday, May 7th and ending May 18th, except Sundays and advance polling days.
