16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wesleyville On Sunday morning's bright and cool weather, Welcome church goers turned out for a very special day. t was the 1 church's first International Camping Sunday and ini the choir and ail through the church the yeung people appeared in the ,miforms of . their various orgenizations. Beavers, Cubs, Browinies, Girl ~'~ Ç~. Guides, CGIT, Boy Scouts and Venturers. The fîrst part of the service was conducteQ b y Scouts and Venturers wh their Advisor, Cliff Brice. The caîl to worship was givenb Venturer David McHolm, and Boy Scout Daniel McHolm led in, prayer. The responsive scripture was led by Venturer Stephen Boyko. Cliff Brice gave the talk for the children. He had an illustration of the old sign Guideboard which for so many years gave the cornmunity its name until the . year of the first post office when it was called Welcome. When the Scouts were in Prince Edward Island for the jamboree they were taught the meaning of the Eskimo word, ý"Chimo" which is a word of greeting. t, with the word Welcome makes a glad sound. Posters were displayed whîch were the result of an art contest to depict aspects of camp life. Angela McHolm's was judged best but ail were good and six received a silver dollar each. Mrs. Mary Kellogg presented these and spoke of camping in the various Ontario church camps. Mrs. L. Boyko escorted Girl Guides to the front to receive their Religion and Life badges. They were Jane Boyko, AngelamMcHolm, Cheryl Lax and Krista MeHolm. George Tufford pre- sented badges to the Boy Scouts. These. were for Religious knowledge and attendance at Sunday school. Stephen McHolm received the ' stage 1, yellow bordered badge; and those receiving Stage 2, green bordered badges were - Stephen Boyko, Rodney Clarke, Scott Byers. A new, camp logo button was presented to all the children. The Junior< choir's anthem was "Twas (on one Sunday morning". Rev. Kennedy's message was based on read- ings from the Psalms and New Testament using many word pictures to show the grandeur and mystery of the sea and Gyod's revelation in it. The offering was received by Messers T. Wilson,' A. Osborne, M. MdHolm and . Miss Gena Beatty. The beautiful arrangement of flowers was lu loving memory of Mrs. Welton, mother of Mrs. Rita Baker whose death occured *last week after a short illness. A basket of daffodils and tulips tells us spring is truly here. Mr. and Mrs. John Connelly greeted the congregation at the door. Members of the Morrish Lstitute attended the noon luncheon held at Millbrook on Thursday, April 26. There was a table of baking and crafts for sale, the day's program was in aid of funds for the East Durham area Institute. Local members attending were Mrs. Margery Ashby, Mrs. Catherine Hoskin and Berniece Best. On the same afternoon there was a qult tying bee held at Mrs. E. Barrowclough's. At the same tîme the U.C.W. group for the month in charge of Mrs. MacIrwin, completed arrangements for the program for the May U.CG.W. meeting. There were about 19 in the combined groups.
