A pot luck supper in the churchhall was enjoyed by l Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Johnson spent Saturdny at the Rumbles' Drug Store, Nom- wood, while Glenda ,and Brian and Krista and is'mother, Georgina, went to Caledonin to visit great-grandmotber. On the Rumbles' return, they were Mother's Day luncheon guests of the Johnson's. Patients in Oshawa General Hosital include Kari Weyrich, Mrs. Nettie Butlem and Mrs. Christena Selby. Mr. and Mrs. R. Mothe's Day visitors with the Scott's were Miss Cindy Scott, Osbawa, Miss Cathy Scott, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Scott, Lorraine and Justin, Little Britain. ,Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade on Sturday evening attended the Veterans' Nigbt Banquet of the I.O.O.F. at Beaverton present wnich included the Sunday School cildren and sevemal parents. The tables were tnstefully decorated for the occasion witb brigbt sping flowers by Sunday Scbool Superintendent Mrs. Hazel Gray and hostess Mrs. Bruce Foote and Mrs. Audrey Brown. Following the supper, Mrs. Gray directed a program in wich the cildren participat- ed which was both interesting and informative. It gave the adults present an insight into wha t is being nccomplisbed in the Sunday Scbool. The vnious works of art of the children were displnyed around the room for inspec- tion. A new portable record player that was provided in memory of Mr., James Shackleton was officially dedicated. A number of the party faithful and a trickle of others were present from this community at the Conserva- tîve Association dance held in the arena on Saturday even- ing, quite an inclement even- ing weatherwise. Miss Lana Malcolm sang to bier guitar accompaniment on the program "Showtime '79" at Alderville, Ont. on Fridny evening. A good crowd was present at Sundny morning's Mother's Day service at Yelverton United Church. The "Year of the Child" was observed with a slightly smaller quota than usual for Baptism: Mr. and Mrs. Terry Malcolm, a son Jeremy Terence; Mr. and Mrs. Brian Wilson, a daugbtem Elizabeth Lynne. Miss Lana Malcolm accompanied the Sunday School children in a medley of songs in tribute to the mothers in the communi- ty.- Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wilson ofthis community are scbeduled to be taking a four day bus trip this week on a scenic tour to Michigan to see the Floma and Fauna of that amen. The County Town Singers On Monday evening, May 7 at the Newcastle Community Hall, the Newcastle Hockey Mothers sponsored an evening of song by the County Town Singers. It was a delightful evening of good music with Master of Ceremonies Amnie Celsey of Oshawa Radio Station. The only disappoint- ment to us was that the progmam was not well attend- ed for such good family entertainment. One familiar man in the choir was Laurie- Stapleton. The opening number was Somewhere Over the Rainbow followed by This Land was made for You and Me. Mr. Jim Ashley then con- ducted the choir in singing Streets of London and Gordon Lightfoot's, Railroad Trilogy. There were Crosby tunes, Amazing Grace, Brigadoon songs, That's Entertainment Mr. Bojangles, Boadway melodies (Hello Dolly, To- morrow, Sunrise and Sunset, What 1 Did for Love, Mame) and a Medley of songs from Godspell. In all, it was a beautiful program presented by the 65 members of the choir. Anglican Church News Rev. and Mrs. Allan Halden- by attended the Convocation of Emmanuel College in Convocation Hall at the Un- iversity of Toronto on Thurs- day, May 10. Mrs. Haldenby's brother, Walter Heamne, gmad- uated in Theology. Tribute was paid to Mothers at the services on Sunday in St. George's Anglican Church. Many families attended, to fulfill the day. Rev. Haldenby spoke on the relation of the family to the Family of the Church. Mr. Wayne Linton took three boys to Toronto for retreat with Bishop Read, Murray- Northam. St. George's, Gilbert Wood and Robert Frencb of St. Saviours, Orono had a great time. The Anglican Church Women are holding their annual salad supper on Wed- nesday, June 6th.
