On Tuesday afternoon, the Women's Institute met at Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer's home. the president, Mrs. R. Beatty presided. The rolcali was "Bring us the grain or seed of some plant and name it- " but s0 few remembered it we changed it to "Name your favourite vegetable.'" Eleven members attended and six members joined for another year. The minutes were read by Mrs. H. Quan- trili in the absence of Mrs. H. Thickson. Motto was "Feed your family what they require not what they desire. ' Discussions on catering to the 5th wedding anniversary and the June 2nd weddîng were held. A committee of Mrs. H. Muldrew, Mrs.,Bark- well, and Mrs. R. Beatty was selected from the W.I. to look after the 5thi wedding. Uom- mittee for June wedding was Mrs. C. Mercer, Mrs. K. Trew, and Mrs. R. Beatty. The district annual May lth Millbrook was discussed. Voting delegates are Mrs. H. Quantrili, Mrs. M. McAllister, and Mrs. H. Muldrew. Mrs. R. Beatty, district president, brought a report from the district that we cleared $16685 at the luncheon we served, at Millbrook last week. The meeting was turned over to the Agricultural and Canadian Industries, conve- nor Mrs. C. Mercer. Miss E. Carruthers gave a paper on planting seeds, how early, etc. Miss Carruthers and Mrs. C. Mercer played a duet on the harp and piano. A couple of contests were had followed with lunch. Next meeting will be in June conducted by the Family and Consumer convenor Mrs. J. Barkwell. Mrs. C. Mercer called on Mr. and Mrs. W. Terbenche's in Port Hope, on Thursday. Miss Diane Beatty, Toronto is home for a few days with Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty. Sunday callers at Mr. and Mrs.. C. Mercer's were Mr. and Mrs. W. Terbenche and Darryl, Port Hope; Mrs. R., Crombie and boys, Bowman- ville. Mrs. W. Terbenche and Mrs. R. Crombie visited with Mrs. R. Westheuser on Wednesday. Miss Leanne Terbenche spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. R. Mercer. On Saturday evening the bowling club held their banquet and dance at Bewdley were they reported a good crowd and excellent time. Many trophies were given out as well as three door prîzes. Elizabethville Sunday School held a game and lunch day on Saturday. They had hot dogs, fish pond, cancly, baking and games. I arn sure the children enjoyed the fun and games. Several in the area attended Garden Hill Bake Sale at the basement on Saturday. Mrs. J. Badder, Julie, Tracy and Andy, Kitchener spent the last weekend at Mr. and Mrs. W. Casselton's and, visted their relatives ail week as well as taking in the bowling party. Mr. Badder came up on Saturday. 'Mrs. E. Fowler is having tests at Peterborough hospital this week. Mr. G. Morris hasn't been as well as he was. He came home from the hospital on Thursday and is improving. Mr. and Mrs., Thickson spent Tuesday in Toronto. Mrs. R. Westheuser and girsl had supper with Mr. and Mrs. H. Thickson on Thurs- day. Mr. Colin George and girl friend, Toronto, spent the' weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mercer. Many reported the'fishing in the area to be excellent over the last weekend. Our U.C.W. will meet at Mr. and Mrs. W. Banisters on Tuesday. Sunday services at Garden Hill Sunday. will be Famnily day if being Mother's Day. Lindsay District To Carry Forest Resourcýes Count For the next four months the Lindsay District will be carry- ing, out a forest inventory ovarious forest stands and plantations. The inventory is necessary. to provide an update of forest resources for thie purposes of forest management and proper land use planning. It will give forest management personnel a summary of the total forest area by species. Measurements taken will include height, diameter and age and will include a descrip- tion of shrubs, souls and forest regeneration Your woodlot may be selected for part of this vital survey . We solicit your cooperation in allowing our staff t o gather this important information. Southern Ontario is an important source of raw material for many industries such as pulp and paper, lumber, posts and utility poles. Forested land also provides wildlife habitat, protection of water source areas and beauty. Wise use of, these resources can only b accomplished through propeE-- management techniques and long terrm planning. The forest inventory provides the basic information necessary for determining the proper forest management practices to bie employed. This happy young fellow, Ryan John Shackelton, will celebrate bis first birthday on Thursday, May l7th, 1979. His proud parents are Rick and Joanne Shackelton, of Oshawa. Ryan is the first grandchild of Rose and Sid Pappin, Courtice, and third grandchild for Rae and Elwood Shackelton, Bowmanville. Kenneth Mijnion and son Jeffrey of Peterborough spent Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob; Morton.
