Gunby, Toronto, spent the weekend witb ber parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty. While here, she and Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty; Mr. and Mrs. B. Burton and boys and Mrs. A. Trew were witb Mr. and Mrs. Z. Austin's for tea on Sunday. Mr. and- Mrs. J. DeKoker, Sunderland, called at Mr. and Mrs. H. Thicksons on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer called on Mr. and Mrs. H. Gordon, Port Hope an evening last week. Mrs. Blanche Muldrew attended a going away supper for Miss Colleen Davidson, Millbrook at ber parents' Mr. and Mrs. Les Davidson. She has taken a job, at Women's College Hospital, Toronto. Mr. Bill Muldrew spoke at Lake View, Oshawa last weekend. Mrs. Sandy Bartley, Guelph spent a week with bier mother Mrs. B. Muldrew recently. Mr. Beatty came last Sunday and took hier home. Mr. and Mrs. T. Barrington, Hampton'bad tea with Mrs. Blanche Muldrew and boys. OBITUAR'»Y JAMES GORDON BROWN A well known resident of Courtice for 60 years, James Gordon Brown, passed away on Friday, May l8th, 1979, in Memorial Hospital, Bowman- ville. In bis 68th year, lie was seriously ill in 1978, but bis healtb bad improved to present time. Son of James and Elizabeth Brown hie was born la Scar- borough, and educated at Courtice and Bowmanville. Gord, as lie was popularily known, was employed as a bus driver for Voyageur Colonial for 30 years, retiring' three years ago. A member of Ebenezer United Church, hie had served in the Canadian Army, and was a member of Local 306 Voyageur Colonial. He loved bis home and garden, and was an avid sports fan of hockey, soccer and bahl. Left to mourn bis passing are bis sister Mary (Mrs. Frank Hooper) of Bowman- ville,.a brother Wilfred, of Courtice, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nepbews. Reverend David Burns officiated at the funeral services held on Tuesday, at the Morris Funeral Chapel. Paîl bearers were fellow Voyageur bus drivers J. Strachan, M. Compeau, J. Deacon, D. Gibson, G.J. Sullivan and J. Murphy. Many floral tributes were received in bis memory, among which were tokens from 306 Voyageur Colonial, Drivers and Staff, the Roy Nichols Staff, and many donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Study Milk Consumptio Habits in' Public Sehool The Ontario Milk Marketing Board bas sent the Northumberland - Newcastle Board of Education a letter, stating it is undertaking a study on the consumption of milk and other beverages in elementary scbools in Ontario., Enquiries were also made as to whetber the Northumberland - Durham Board bad a subsidized school milk program in which mîlk is available to the childrenfree, or at reduced prices, and consumed on scho6l property. Four public school principals attended the Northumberland, - Durham Board'of Education meeting beld Thursday, May 24tb in Cobourg. Principal Gary Little, of Dr. L.B. Powers Public School ln Port Hope stated only about a third of the 100 students who stay for lunch, buy milk. Another principal said of 300 pupils staying for lunch, only 80 to 100 bought milk. Fruit juices introduced proved to be Explorera from Trinity Church Graduate to CGIT These members of the Trinity United Church Explorers' Group recently graduated to the OGIT (Canadian Girls in Training). The new members of the OGIT shown here are: Carolyn Connelly, Bonnie Junkin, Wendy Williams, Gina Erwin, Terri Shackleton, Terri Burns, Cathy Connelly, Pamela DeRaaf and Carol Austin. High School Raises $3,225 in Canvass, for Heart Fùnd Bowmanville High School raised $3,225 for the Heart Fund this year, contributin g over $1,000 more than they raised in last year's canvass. The students are responsible for door-to-door canvassing in town. Presenting the cheque on behaîf of the school last Tuesday to Mary Wylie of the Ontario Heart Foundation were, from left: Pat Blaker, Gord Walker, Glen Austin and principal Earl Wolff.
