8The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, June 13, 1979 Six Escape Injuries When Car Rouas Over Both lanes of traffie were held up for nearly an hour last Thursday night on High way Two at Bennett Road when this car went out of control on a curve and rolled over on its roof. The car's six occupants were fortunate to escape with only minimal injuries. Sorry to hear two Newton- ville ladies are patients in Memorial Hospital namelv This included Winnipeg, Banff, Jasper National Park, Dawson Creek starting of the Alaskan Highway, Mile Zero, northern British Columbia, Leard Hot Springs and on, up to Whtehorse and Dawson, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Alaska. Altogether, sorne nine thousand miles were covered in the three weeks with good weather and a wonderful tirne, ail the way, and we are giad to welcome them back home again. Mr. and Mrs. Don Adams of Brampton called in to see Mr. Jim Adams on their way out to their- cottage at Rice Lake. Mr. and Mrs. teith Fletcher and grandsons Shane and Ievin of Downsview were Saturday visîtors with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fletcher. Mr. Jim Adams visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. G. Adams and famiiy, Mr. and Mrs. G. Fuifit, Mr. and Mrs. D.' Adams, grandson James and friend and as a resuit Mr. and Mrs. J. Adams is feeling much better! Miss Kim Gilmer was among those attending a Pajarna Party Saturday even- ing at the Wiiiems home. Margaret Elliott and Penny Strippe were the Greeters at our church door, Sunday morning when the theme of Rev. Tizzard's sermon was "Some Day, We'il Know" and the choir sang "Safeiy To The Sunset Gates". Mrs. Violet Gilmer was a supper guest Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gilmer, Jeff Gilmer and friend Miss Cindy Colins, after attending the Ball Game in Port Hope Town Park in the afternoon. Bowmanville Merchants played the Port Hope Senior Flyers there the latter winning by the score of 19-4. Newtonville U.C.W. will meet in the church hall on Wed., June 2th beginning with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. Newtonville W.I. wili meet on Thursday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the home of Pres. Bernice and Mrs. Milligan. Ail ladies welcorne. We understand quite a number were leaving on the Senior Citizenl Bus Trip Monday rnorning. We hope to have more particulars next week. Newtonville Public School On April 26, our School put on a prograrn for the parents. The prirnary children put on the play called "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". Sherri- Ann Price was Goldilocks, Marna Bear was played by Leigh Renton and Baby Bear was Troy warner. The rest of the classes made up the Teddy Bear Choir and they ail sang "The Bear Went Over the Mountain", "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" and "The Bear Necessities". Thanks should go to Mrs. Colville and Mrs. Haase for working so well with the children and to ail the mothers who rnade the bear hats. The second haîf of the program was perforred by grades 4, 5 and 6. First, they did some square dancing and then the choir sang "Ten Feet Off the Ground", "Marvellous Toy", "Years May Corne, Years May Go". When the choir sang "Octopuses Garden" the audience had a laugh when near the end of the song, the choir started to blow bubbles during the song "B-a-Ba" . Mr. Trennum a sked the audience to join-in and we al found out what a tongue twister that song is. We wish to thank our talented new Vice-Principal, Mr. Trennum for rnaking the songs 50 rnuch fun, for children and aduits. The proceeds frorn the entertainment program and hot dog days were put toward the field trips. On Wed., May 30, Grades 4, 5 and 6 went to the Science Center. The program for the day inciuded seeing how a T.V. Studio operates. Each of the chiidren took turns putting on a play that was taped and Mixed Major Bowlers Honor Their Champions Recently, the Mixed Major Bowling League held their closing banquet and awards night at Centennial Hall. The championship team this year included, front left to right, Paul Jackman, Elizabeth Clegg, Maurice Annaert, Capt. Ann Emmett, Dave Reynolds and Debbie Luxton, Runners uv were, from the left, Judy Johnson, Dave Mott, Capt. Peggy Haynes and Debbie Luxton; absent Bill O'Neil and Ross Wright. then we ail watched it being played back. Sandra Zietsma and Coileen Pollard fought King Kong, Donny Burgess and Gord Umprey were traped in a bottie, Juanita Patterson and Mr. MacDonald performed an operation on, Tina Cox- the operation was a definite successi On May 31, Grades 1, 2 and 3 went on a trip to Metro Zoo. The principla, Mn. Taylor came along to help and everything went very smooth-, ly. As always the most popular animais were the Gorilias who put on a real performance for the children. Other favorites mncluded the seais, elephants and polar bears. In ciosing we would like to thank those who kept the school dlean in Mr. Rowe's absence duringr the strike but we are ail giad he is back and wouid like hirn to know we appreciate his work.
