On Sunday afternoon the Burgess picnic was held at Mr. and Mrs. Murray Minis' home in Orono. This group are sisters and brothers of Mrs. Clarence Mercer and their familles. They had a picnic supper. The Powell picnic was held in the afternoon also. Cans, cans and more cans were delivered to Bowmanville's recycling depot Saturday by the Durham Christian Secondary School. No one was counting, but it was estimated that 4,000 cans were in this truckload. They were collected during the last half-year of sehool. Henrietta Prins, Amy Batelaan, Paul Hansel and Ted DeJager are unloading one of the containers here. Conservation is not unusual for Durham Christian Secondary School, since the students also colleet and seli re-usable paper. The recycling depot in the Goodyear Parking lot has been receiving a growing number'of customers. Operated by Newcastle Environment Watchers (N.E.W.) the depot has now been in operation for close to one year. Its hours are 10 a.m. to one p.m. every Saturday.
