Players on the Western Team, who won the game 8 - 6, are Bell, O'Neill, Hanna, Ward, Crawford, Brown, Stoneback and MacConald from Whitby, and Gilhooly, Gallagher, Ferguson, Hooper, Yourth and Legree from Bowmanville. JUNIOR - Girls 1979 Ontario Girls Golf Team will be made up of Christa Lee Teno, of Lake- field Golf Club, Windsor, who won the Ontario Junior Championship last week at the Dale-_ wood Golf Course with a 79, second place wmnner Brenda Burns, Sault Ste. Marie, and and Kristie Scullion of Sumnxit Golf was third. Fifth was Carolyn Schroter of Port Hope. The team will now play in the Canadian Champion- ship in Newfoundland in August. The Lakers game was a tight one in Newcastle. The Eagles were down 6 -5 going into the ninth when Peter Henderson, in top picture, pounded one over the left field fence for the tying run. The two hurlers are shown below, Rai ph Kennedy at left and Cox, right. On Sunday, the Lakers swamped Whitby 22 -5, Steve West hitting three homes in four times at bat. MerchantsDrop Two More The Bowmanville Merchants continued downhill in their current slump b y losing 4-_3 to Oshawa and il - 4 to Kendal. On Saturday in Oshawa the Merchants played one of their best games of the season only to be beaten in the bottom of the ninth inning. They scored all three runs in the first inning, and could not cross the plate after that. Leadoff batter Ralph Cryderman reached base after being bit by a pitch. Larry Forsey sacrificed hlm to second. Tom Nowlan walked, and successive singles by Steve Parker and Murray 'O'Brien scored two, runs. Parker then scored on Mike Cornell's ground-out. The locals tbreatened after that but could flot score. They played good defensive ball and received good pitcbing from, Ron Stainton and Larry Forsey. In the first haif Gareth Stone put Bowmanville ahead after a nice pass from Christian Goemans, but Wbitby came back witb two goals and led by 2-1 at the baif. Each and every boy played better than they have ever played before, individuaily and as a team. Tbeir first game was against Cedar Ridge and the final score was. 3-1 with Clarke Glaspeil getting the bat trick. The second game was against Glen Stewart, a teami for wbom we bave a great deal of respect. The only goal in the game was scored, by Grant Ashton in the first five minutes of play. A lot of the credit for the shutout was due to the great defence work of Darryl Dallas and Steve Baker and tbe solîd goal tending of John Gilbert. Excitement was certainly bigh after this win because now Tyrone was in the finals against Kingside, a teami we had neyer played before but' wbose reputation made us quite nervous. Tbere was no score at tbe end of the first haîf of the final game and that was as it sbould bave been but in the second haîf our boys got tbeir second wind and the game finished up witb Tyrone winning 5-1.
