An empty gas tank robbed Canadian Steve Gervais of a victory, in the Molson Motor- cycle Grand Prix of Canada Sunday afternoon. Gervais ran out of gas in the final heat of the 750 cc event at Mosport while within sight of the finish line. He nursed his Yamaha over the finish for third place behind Patrick Pons, of France, and Michel Frutschi, of Switzerland. Gervais' performance was good enough for an over-alI second place finish but not good enough to make him the first Canadian to ever win a 750 cc Grand Prix event at Mosport. Patrick Pons' win gives him the lead in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. The heart-stopping excite- ment in the final race climax- ed an afternoon of two-wheel action at the 2.459 mile Mosport track. His bike developed technical pro- blems and was sidelined in the first heat. Duhamel came back for the second but was unable to keep up the leaders. The second race belonged to Michel Frutschi, of Lausanne, Switzerland who led during most of the race. He finished third in the overaîl standings.
