4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Ai OBITLJARIES bTUAItT VIVIAN MATTSON (formerly Wheeler) A prominent citizen of the area, Stuart Vivian Mattson (formerly Wheeler) aged 84, passed away in Bowmanville on Saturday, July 7th, 1979 Daughter of the late Mai y Wilmot and Duncan James Galbraith, she was born in Newcastle, at Belmont Farm, and was the. last great grandchild of Major S.S. Wilmot, who donated the land, and had bulit, the first Anglican Church where St. George's Cemetery is present- ly located. She was educated at Havergal College, Toronto. She was married in 1920 to the late Alden Dodge Wheeler Jr., and in 1952 to Harold Bror Mattson. Recently residing in Osha- wa, she had previously resid- ed in 'Brantford, and in Bowmanville, in 1928, for almost 20 years. Surviving are hier daughter Diana Grandfield, Toronto, a son, Alden Wheeler, Victoria, B.C,, and four grandchildren. Canon Tarleton, of St. Peter's Church, Cobourg, offi- ciated at the funeral services held on Saturday from St. George's Anglican Church, Newcastle. Palîbearers were the Honorable Mr. Justice J.B.S. Southey, Simon Fraser, Clive Grandfield, Toronto, Allan Wilmot, Woodstock, J. Arthur Wynn ', Brantford, John Wheler. Prince George, B.C. Interment Wilmot Plot, St. George's Cemetery, New- castle. PETER N. MURDOCH Following a lengthy illness of 19 years, Mr. Peter N. Murdoch died at 'Oshawa General Hospital, on Monday, July l6th, 1979. He had resided at Extendicare Nursing Centre, Oshawa for the past six years. The former Peter N. Murdoch was born and educated in Harvey Township and was the son of the late James and Tusha (Ward) Murdoch. He had lived in the Bowmanville, Oshawa area for the past 37 years. Previous to his illness hie worked as a carpenter and general contractor. He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel (Lee) Murdoch, whom hie married in St. Andrews Church, Lindsay, August 18, 1925. Surviving are three sons, James P. of Bowmanville, William of Ottawa, Daniel of Oshawa, four daughters Margaret (Mrs. Murray Tabb), Bowmanville, Florence of Oshawa, Grace (Mrs. Helmut Mueller) Toronto and Prisctlla (Mrs. Jack Gray) Whitby, five sisters, Mary of Bobcaygeon, Priscilla of Niagara on the Lake, Esther of Florida, Eva of Lndsay and Doris of Saskatchewan and a brother, oscar of Lindsay, 17 grand- children and three great grandchildren. Mr. Murdoch rested at Morris Funeral Chapel, Bow- manville with services held on Thursday. Rev. J.S. Gilchrist officiated. The six eldest grandsons acted as palîbearers, Allan, Mark and John Murdoch, John Gray, Kenneth and David Tabb. Interment Verulam Cemetery, Bobcaygeon. ANGUS JOHN (JACK) VAN DRIEL Owner and operator of -the College Hill Barber Shop, Angus John (Jack) Van Driel of 190 Mill St.,' Oshawa, died following a heart, attack at Oshawa General Hospital on Tuesday, July 24, 1979.
