They are Sharlene Cain, Dale Terry, Ron Sellick, Ron Etcher, Jackie Patfield, Bob Burley, and Doug Brock. Aiso receiving trophies were coach Bob Mitchell and Supervisor Harold Bennett. D UE - to a mix-up at Wolverhampton, Engiand, Silvia Ruegger of Newtonviile, and of the Durham A.M., Kiwanis Striders Club, and Veronica Poryckyj, of Sudbury, were unable to. compete in the international 3000 metre race. However, Silvia earned fifth place in the 1500 meters race, in a time of 4.32.4, cutting five seconds off her personal time of 4.27.7, which she established iast week in Angiers, France. In her tour of Europe with the Canadian Junior team, Silvia finished with a second, a third and fifth place positions. Her next meet wiil be at the Ontario Junior Championships, August 18-19. We have quite an athiete in Silvia. TOURNAMENT - The Girls' Bantam Softball League will be holding a tournament this Satur- day morning in the Memorial Park, south ball diamond, and the Vincent Massey diamond. Games start at nine a.m. with finals scheduled for around 11:30 at the south diamond of Memor- il Park. Four teams have entered the event. One of Franks victories occurred on Tuesday nigbt as Don Forsey belted bis fourtb borner of the year, tripled and singled and drove in two-runs to lead Franks to a 8-3 triumph over the Mariners. Forsey's triple, off loser Len Foster ý(4- 4) ighligbted a five run third inning and belped Bill Cochrane to bis tbirteenth win in seventeen decisions. Tbe Mariners bad taken a 3-2 first inning lead on Tom Sirnpson's two run borner and an RBI single by Foster. Yvon Micbaud scattered six bits, walked one and struck out nine for bis fourtb win against one loss as Krarnps downed Century 21 Real Estate 2-1 on Tuesday nigbt at Mernorial Park. Kramps tied the game in the second on consecutive singles by Joe Caruana and Ken Ferris. Rob Brough belted bis first homer of the year in the third inning for the winning run off John Allen (4- 4). On Wednesday night the Realtors, jumped into a 4-1 fourth inning lead and hung on to down D & R Sports 4-3 behind the six bit pitching of Mike Knight (4-4). The loss by the Sportsmen coupled with Kramps win on Tuesday night, left them six points behind Kramps with five games remaining. Bob Finlay (3-6) deserved a better fate as he held the Realtors to only five hits but a double by Norm Caruana and Norm Crosbie's single plus an error provided the Realtors with -their winning runs in the fourth. In Thursday's, early game, On Tuesday, July 3lst, the Bowmanville Swim Team par- ticipated in a six-team swim meet in Cobourg. The local team short of swirnmers due to vacations finished third bebind Port Hope and Napa- nee. The standings had Port Hope first with over 500 points, Napanee second with 355, Bowmanville counted 236 points, one ahead of Cobourg, Camp Samnac had 201, and Lindsay was sixtb with a total of 173. The swim team and their coaches were very pleased with their finish considering the shortage of swimmers and relied on very strong finishes in the relay events to pull ahead of the Cobourg team. The team is continualiy working bard toward the regional final meet to be held in Port Hope on the 25th of this month. The teamn is hosting their own meet in Bowman- ville on the 2th of August and people interested in seeing. some very good swimming should corne out and see a group of young people reaping the rewards of bard work and athletic achievement. PA RTICIPA TE Bnack on Winning Way s In Final Scheduled Game The Bowrnanville Mer- chants ended their regular season on a winning note by downing the Little Britain Generals 6-3 last Tbursday night. The game was played in Little Britain witb botb tearns very short in rnanpower. Mike Cornell pitcbed the entire game for the Bowrnan- ville team and pitched very well. He held the Little Britain tearn without a bit until the seventh inning. They scored a couple of runs in that inning and one in the eighth, but by that time the Merchants had their six runs and were well in control of the garne. The team was hitting tbe ball fairly well and should be ready for the upcoming play- offs. They have been placed in 'C' division with Ajax and Whitby. It appears as though Whitby will have a bye, while waiting for the winner of Bowrnanville and Ajax. Play- off dates have not yet been confirmed.
