CometiiveSwim ,Competitifon Finsh.: sfor Year atenPortHopeâ by Rick Santomero The competitive swimming season came to a close at the Summer Regional Champion- ships held in Port Hope Saturday, Aug. 25th. The meet produced many new regional records and was generally well run; the level of competition was outstanding. Bowmanville swimmers did well at the meet with two of the swimmers winning age- level Gold medals for best overall performance. John' Paul Duczmalewski won his for the boys 7-8 age group and Janet VanGoor won in the, girls 15-17 age group. Janet also won two medals for establishing regional records in the girls 15-17 breaststroke and the girls open breast- stroke. These performances are formidable considering the quality of competition. The overaîl standings for the day left the local team in fourth place behind Port Hope, Napanee, and Camp Samac and ahead of the teams from Lindsay, Cobourg and Campbellford., This meet closes the third summer of competition for the local team and each year the team bas shown growth and improvement in the level of performance. This year's team eliminated many of the team records of the past. It was a season which also saw the team host their first meet, an event that will hopefully continue in the future. Team coaches Joan Santomero and Joanne Dilling wish to thank the parents of the team members who did so much to help this season and also to remind the swimmers to stay in shape for next season, which should be even better than the one just past.
