Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nesbitt, their daughter and grand- daughter, Fort Macleod, Aberta returned home last Wednesday after a week's stay with her mother, Mrs. Ina Whitney. On Monday afternoon, many old friends of-the Nesbitt's were invited to the home-of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kimbaîl, Port Granby, for a visit there. Newcastle friends visiting there were Mrs. Lena Graham and Mrs. Kathleen imbaîl. On Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Jean Rickard, a miscellaneous shower was held in honor of Miss Frances Hoar. Mrs. Audrey Walton held a Jack and Jili Shower at her horne in honor of Frances and her husband-to-be Colin Cooke. Mrs., Lena Garrod is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. Mr. Howard Allin is a patient in Mernorial Hospital, Bowmanville. Saturday guests of Mrs. Helen Nesbitt included her sister'and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Ashton, Bobcaygeon and, niece, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Quinn, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade attended the ONE and the bal game last Friday. Mrs. Gladys Wood and Mrs. Ellen Duxbury returned Saturday frorn a two-week conducted Trentway Bus tour in the Eastern provinces and Maritimes. Fellow passengers were frorn rany Canadian places as far west as Saskatoon. Good weather was enjoyed and the special city tours were well conducted. Mrs. Joan Norton and her mother, Mrs. Kathleen Kimbaîl were Thursday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stapleton, Port Hope.. Miss Sandra' Kean and friends flew to Calgary Satur- day nîght and plan to spend some holidays in beautiful Banff and area.1 We extend best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Wright on their first wedding anniversary. .We are glad to report that Mrs. Herbie Paeden, who suffered a broken ankie, was able to corne home frorn Mernorial Hospital,, Bowrnan- ville last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Murray and Colleen, Frankford, were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bedwin and Fred, Lake Shore. Ralph and Fred enjoyed Kinmount Fair activities. Mrs. Clara Schmid and Gary returned home from a vacation in Prince Edward Island, where they were guests of Mr, and Mrs. Jack Voutt, Surnrerside. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wagar and farnily attended the wedding on Saturday, Sept. 1, 1979 of Mr. Robert Brown, son of Mrs. Stanley Brown, Willowdale to Marta Kunanice, Scarborough in Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, Ontario. Mr. Wagar perforrned the duties of best man in the wedding party. We, welcorne home Mr. Lawrence Gaines from St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Wednesday visitors with the Gaines' were Jean and Bob Jones, and Billy, Brampton and Mr. and Mrs. 'Joe Bette and baby Mark,. Collingwood. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Mclntosh, Stirling spent a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hagerman. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chard, Johnna and Delann, have returned from a two-week camper tour in our own beautiful province of Ontario. Mrs. Mary Wade, Barrie was an August weekend visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Sid Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Perrin, Cowanville, were Saturday evening dinner guests that weekend. Mr. Gordon Martin, Bow- manville, Mrs. -Joyce Bingham, Deanne and David, Toronto were Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Sain Powell and farnily, Lake Shore. Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Savoy, Montreal, were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Metrailler and family. Misses Tammy- and Maryann Harris, Oshawa, spent a fewý days last week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Powell and Gary, visited'on Sunday with Mrs. Kate Sleep, Riverdale Hospital, Toronto. Mrs. Hazel Crago visited last Thursday with her aunt, Mrs . Edna Laverty, Oshawa. Rickard who are celebrating wedding anniversaries Relatives from Newcastle attending the Dean Brereton - Karen Hughes wedding in Port Hope United Church on Saturday, Sept. 1, 1979 were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Garrod, Mr. and 'Mrs. Douglas Cunningham, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brereton, Mr. and Mrs.Jamie Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Sierd DeJong, and Mr. and Mrs. John Cunningham. The reception followed at the Greenwood Towers, Port Hope. On the weekend our mother, Mrs. Sam Powell, had the rnisfortune to faîl and bruise her ribs. By Sunday, we were concerned so took her to the Emergency Department of Memorial Hospital, Bowman- ville. The nurses there and Dr. Garam were most kind, deal- ing with ail those patients from age 2 to 92, who arrived continually, with ail sorts of problems. We admire the staff for their patience, and praise them for their efficiency. We thank them for their caring and attention. Anglican Church News The last Service of the summer schedule was held on Sunday before Labour Day. Labour was the theme of the Service. The Sermon referred to the changes in ideas about work. The machine and computer are rnaking a great difference in our lives and it is bard for people to be satisfied with the work they are asked to do. The Church needs to emphasize the qualities of work and serving others in regard to pay and also as a life work. Next Sunday is Church Sehool enrolment at both St. Saviour's and St. George's. The Outreach Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8. It will start and end in the Newcastle area. A busload of passengers has been collected by the ACW and on Wed., Sept. 5, they are going to Elmira. 1 Church Services at St. George's resumne at 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 9, 1979.' United Church News On Sunday, Sept. 2nd, Rev. David Spivey who spent much of his summer as chaplain at Quin Mo Lac Camp, based his sermon on the theme What- ever happened to God? Rev. Spivey read somfe of the poems he had collected from the camp children, expressing where they found God. Mr. Bernard Lynch, son of organist Dorothy Payne, was guest soloist, treating the congregation to his rendition of the 23rd Psalm. Rev. Spivey thanked the Orono-Kirby worshippers for their August attendance at Newcastle.
