The first part of the course covers tools, planning, waterproofing and framing. The next evening covers insulation, sub floors. panelling and gyproc. Ceilings, floors, doors, and trims are studied in the third evening and in the final night, the newly-trained rec room builders are given advice on the finishing touches and in addition, therp's a draw on the final c.vening with panelling, tools, faucets and other items given away. Provincial Parks Close After Successful Year Of Increased Camping Tom sinmith, Park Superintendent The Thanksgiving Weekend marked the end of the regular operating season for Darlington, Serpent Mounds, and Mark S. Burnham Provincial Parks. Balsam Lake and Emily Provincial Parks were closed on Labor Day weekend. Parks staff are now busy closing up and winterizing the parks' facilities. Improvement projects are also being carried out during the winter months. Although the park gates may be closed, you are welcome to leave your vehicle at the park entrance and stroll along the vacant roads and quiet pathways to enjoy autumn's splendour. Total camper-nights to Labor Day inclusive for the four camping parks in the Lindsay District increased two per cent over last year for a total of 217,774. The Lindsay District Parks also accommodated some 77,398 day-users. Parks enforcement staff spent a total of 1067 man- days ensuring a safe, enjoyable visit for the public. Rowdyism occurrences were down 40 per cent over last year. A total of 82 charges were laid under the Provincial Parks Act and Regulations and another 283 charges under other Provincial and Federal statutes. McQuay, Conservation Officer Lindsay District of the Ministry of Natural Resources has received numerous complaints concerning abandoned duck hunting blinds on Pigeon Lake. Blinds built in a previous hunting season, in the rice beds south of Gannon's Narrows, have created serious boating hazards when allowed to deteriorate. The Public Lands Act, section 29, indicates that "Every person who, without the written consent of the Minister or an officer authorized by the Minister, throws or deposits or causes to be deposited any material, substance or thing upon public lands, whether or not covered with water or ice, or both, is guilty of an offence" and "on summary conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $500." Contraventions of the Public Lands Act, such as those previously mentioned, could result in prosecution. Hunters are reminded that duck blinds may still be built in the rice beds, on crown land, but must be removed in their entirety before freeze up. With your co-operation, problems can be prevented and good hunting opportunities preserved for future seasons.
