Zth, 1979, Mr. and Mrs. Don Purdy (nee Landry), celebrated their fortieth, wedding anniversary. Mr. Purdy, a former resident of Bowmanville and his wife Emily of Toronto were married October 21, 1939, in Toronto. They have six children, Audrey and Sharon of Bowmanville, Donna, Kenneth, Karen and Rose of Oshawa. They also have 12 grandchidren and one great grand- daughter. Mr. Purdy's mother; 80-year-old Ella Smith came from Toronto to attend the anniversary party held at Storey Park, Oshawa. Other friends and relatives were present from as far away as Rochester, New York, Toronto, Oshawa, Bowmanville and Campbellford. o 0 0 0 01 Maple Grove The W.I. met in the C.E. The W.I. Course in 'Indoor Gardening' wîll be held on November 2lst in C.E. Hall starting at 9:30 a.m. on plants and the afternoon session will be the making of macrame hangers. The Summary Day for thîs course will be on December llth from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with place to be decided. It was decided to order tbe samne number of copies of 'The Federated News'. The Christmas program will start with pot luck supper on December l3tb at 8 p.m. in conjunction wîth the U.C.W. The W.I. are in cbarge of supper plans and the U.C.W. the program. Mrs. S. Morton reported that tbe Tweedsmuir History supplies had arrived and she told of material needed for the House Logs. Mrs. H. Doug, Johns, commissioner of social services, told Durham Rçgional Coundil last week that a shortfall of $61,000 is now being predicted.
