Wood Transport Midgets End Week wth Win end Lots By Bill Paterson November, 28th at Darling- ton Sports Centre, Pickering Village Midgets defeated by Toros 9 -6. The Pickering t eam was short three players before the teams were able to dress due to some vandalism in the arena. The Tranporters scored wîth only 19 seconds gone in the first period. Mike D'Entremont from Marc Richards and Jim Hogarth followed only 32 seconds Iter when Jim Hogarth set up Marc Richards in front of the Pickering goal., Pickering came back and caught the Toros napping and put one behind he ratend- er at 1: 42. From there on the teams exchanged scoring with Marc Richard set up by Mike D'Entremont on a power play. Pickering answered on 'a power play, Kevin Welsh got his first of two goals unassisted on a beautiful effort from the lef t side across the goal mouth and a back hand shot to the corner. The score was Bowmanville 4, Pickrn 3 at the end of the firstpeod Bowmanville scored the first goal of the second period at 7:17 when Greg Smith was set up by Kevin Welsh and Darcy Cummings followed at 7:20 cwhen Pickering scored again. December 1 at Markham Centennial Arena, the Toros played their strongest gaine of the year against this hard skating team but ended up on the short end of a 3 toi1 score. The first period was score- less with Mark Lee stopping 13 shots vs 5 at the Markham end. Markham scored twice in D & R$porte Minou' Atoms End Losing Stroek, 8 On November 2th the boys travelled to Bay Ridges to do battle with the Bay Ridges Minor Atoms. The first period belonged to Bay Ridges as they notched the only goal of the period at 17 û At the 1:34 mark of the second period, Mark Tripp led the game with assists from Gareth Stone and Jeff Laird. Bowmanville jumped into the lead juat six minutes later when Jeïff Laird scored a well earned goal with the assîst going to Gareth Stone. Unfortunately, Bay Rîdges the second period while the Toros had some good chances but couldn't finish them off. The Transporters came back in the third with more drive and more changes while Mark Lee picked out numerous sure goals. Finally, at 10:09, Markham Put their third one in. The Toros did not qive up and at 14:07 Marc Richards scored from Greg Smith and Scott Paterson. Final score Bowmanville 1, Markham 3. Next game, Wednesday, December 5 at Darlington Sports Centre, 9:30 p.m. agaînst the Oshawa Little NHL "Red Wings." Close Decision with Cobourg On November 24th, Cobourg came to Bowmanville looking for revengecarried from last season 's losses to our Toros plu one exhibitioni game early this year. t was a see-saw game going from end to end with no one being able to capitalize on well set-up plays. On Saturday, Dec. 1 Checker's Variety Minor Bantam Toros hosted Ajax for their fourth and last encounter of regular season play. Bow- manville outscored their opponents 5 to 3 and this gave them a total of 5 points out of the 8 possible against these worthy adversaries. The only goal of the opening frame belonged to the Toros' captain Darcy Huber with the assist going to Jay Sweet. Ajax came back in the second period with 3 goals in less than 4 minutes to take the lead. Kevin Latchford scored twice and Deryk Higdon once. AlI were slapshots on the goalie's glove side. Bef ore the period ended the Toros evened the tally when Darcy Huber again scored with Roger Hornsby assisting. Ray Cummings let a shot go from the point. Assisting on this goal were Scott Heard and Deryk Clark. Late in the final period, Darcy Huber scored his third of the night and the go-ahead goal with a slapshot from the blue line. Danny Weir assist- ed. Another shot from the blue line by Gordie Rogers provided the insurance goal Toros needed to take the win. Scott Heard earned an assist on this goal.
