Wesleyville Family anrd friends are very proud of Lance Payne's achievement during his year's at Clarke High Sehool. He recieved his honor graduation diploma at Commencement recently and awards: the Toms and Sons award of menit for academie achievement, the great Pine Ridge Kinsmen award for the outstanding musician in class 5, and an award for long service in band and choir, and also, was valedictorian. He is at present studying pharmacy in Toronto. Another of Sarah Scul- thorpe's lovely qujîts was quilted at the McColl home last week. The concluding session of the Bible Study session was held at the Manse, Welcome Iast Tuesday morning. A review of the course was prepared and papers read by Mesdames Donna Chestnut, Hope Holdaway, Mary Gardiner, Gladys Farrow and others., Church service at Welcome on Sunday, December 2nd, was conducted by Rev, Dr. lel Buttars and in place of the usual arrangement of flowers, a wreath of pine branches surrounded a circle of red candles with a white one in the centre, symbol of the first -, ,Sunday oiAdvent.- The serv ,ice of this candie lighting day was in charge of the McHolm family. Mrs. Roy McHolm read the introductory scripture, and concluding, telling of the titles given Jesus; Roy spoke of the light brought into the world by Jesus, and the congregation sang a portion of O little to'wn of Bethlehem; Krista explained the meaning of the circle of candles with Christ represented in the centre; He-ather lit the first candie, and Stephen closed with prayer. Trhîs was a very impressive and meaningful way of beginning the season of Advent. Rev. Buttar's message for the children told of this beginning of a new season, not faîl or winter, but of Advent and the need of self prepared- ness for the true observation of the anniversary of Christ's birthday. His sermon was based on the title, "A Time of Testing" and began with the story of Abraham and Issac. We must not forget the fact that the customs of the dayin Abraham's time were s0 different from ours. Today's person finds this test un- acceptable but in Abraham's day it was an accepted thing. Abrahamn was totally submissive to God and thus was able to stand the test. We are still tested today in different ways and how we meet it depends on the ber l6th 'when the 'Kinsmen Club of Manvers will be giving out treats to the children in the Manvers Community Centre. While this is taking place above, there will be a program hield on the ice surface below with entertainment by various groups and local talent. There is no charge for this entertain- ment.
