Musikids had a fuil-house at concert Iast Friday and Saturday evening. Santa was a special guest at last week's Musikids concert held at the Bowmanville High School Auditorium. Here, Santa gets together with some of his elves who were selling tickets on a door prize during the evening. Musikids Youth Orchestra, under thie direction osf Drew Parker, presented Musikrist- mas at Bowmanville High School on Dec. 7 &B. Warren Clark, Oshawa, chairman of Speciality Custom Milling the Musikid's Parents Execu- tive, welcomed -the audienceý and introduced the guests -- His Worship Ma yor Garnet Rickard, and MPP Sam Cur- ea tz and his lovely wife Kathy. Musikids acted as Master of Ceremonies for the entire show, including the introduc- tion of, the Gaetane Ollesch Dancers, who performed as guests. Musikatz *stage band was a real hit, as usual* Solos as indicated in the attached programme were superb. Santa and his elves busily talked with children and senior citizens and passed out candy canes. Santa Kiassen (Gar - father of trumpeter, Liz rKlassen, of Ajax) was assisted in his duties by Paul Percy Elves included Lynn ,aieJennifer Chryk, Lynn Cross Janet Anderson, im Russeli, Adam Clark, ail of whom are future Musikids (brothers and sisters of mem- bers). Other future Musikids were ushers and included: Robert Anderson, Todd Bail- eKurt Holton and Simon Hudson. Musikids are in receipt of a Wintario Grant to pufrchase instruments for the group. Proceeds from the two-day Musikristmas will go toward this effort. Ward One trustee S.T. Worden was re-appointed as the school board's representa- tive to the Durham Region planning committee last week. Mr. Worden told the board that he does not plan to attend ahl meetings but will be present when important mat- ters relating to the Town of Newcastle are discussed. Mr. Worden's position wîth the planning commîttee is that of an observer. There are no voting privileges. A special award has been commissioned by the Ontario Public School Men Teachers' Federation in honor of the past director of the Northumber- land and Newcastle Board of Education. The Frank Thom award will be given annually to persons who have made outstanding contribution to education. Mr. Thom was -the first recipient of the plaque. In the future,,awards will be selected by the local OPSMTF executive and previous recipi- ents of the award. Nominations can come from the OPSMTF, schools, the board of education, home and school associations and other sources. Two Newcastle trustees have been chose to serve on the Ontario Public School Trustees' Association for 1980. The appointees are Bil Carman, who was re-appoint Carman, who was re-appoint7 ed to the position after serving on the association in 1979, and Andy Thompson, the past Chairman of the Northumber- land and Newcastle Board. Harriett Reisler bas been re-appointed as the alternate delegate. The official portrait of the past director of education for the Northumberland and New- castle Board of Education was unveiled at a meeting of the school board last week. The portrait of Frank Thom, director of education for the past 10 years, 15 f0 hang in the board room at the Northum- berland and Newcastle offices in Cobourg. Mr. Thom retired as direcc lor in August, of this year.
