Delta Faucet Minor Poe Wees Showing Signs of On Saturday, Dec. 8, our Delta Pee Wees hosted Ajax at Memorial Arena and came out on the short end of a well played game. There was plenty of action in the game but few goals were scored. As a matter of fact, there was no scoring for two periods and in the entire game not one penalty was called. Our boys were having their problems up until this game but they finally put it all together today and played like a team. Each boy gave his best performance and they almost succeeded. Toros opened the scoring when Pete Hughes found the range on a set up by Greg Martin with 3:37 gone in the third perid. However, Ajax came right back at 3:53 of the period and tied it up. It appeared that the game would end in a tie when at 13:19 of the period, Ajax got a break, one of the few mistakes made by our boys and got the go ahead goal. Toros pressed for the equalizer but could not score before time ran out. A good effort boys. Run Into Hot Goalie On Tuesday, Dec. il the Minor Pee Weé Toros travelled to Bay Ridges to meet their arch-rivals whom they have never beaten. Our boys turned in a super effort only to be turned back by excellent goaltending. The two teams traded goals I mprovemeont in the first two periods. Toros' goal was scored by Mark Hickey on a super three-way passing play with Mike Knight and Jay Kelly. Late in the second period and early in the third, Bay Ridges ran into penalty problems and Toros swarmed all over their opposition but could not score. Peter Hughes, Mike Knight, Grég Martin, Mark Hickey, Jay Kelly and Chris Moroz all had excellent scoring chances but could not beat the Ridges' goalie. The inability to score during their power plays frustrated Toros somewhat and Bay Ridges having returned to full strength quickly capitalized on two opportunities to take a three to one lead. They increased it to 4-1 at the 8:45 mark. Toros did not give up though and fought back with a goal of their own with four minutes left when Greg Martin fed a pass to Peter Hughes who drifted a high shot over the outstretched arm of the Ridges' goalie from the point. However, Toros could not add to their production and the score ended 4-2 in favor of Bay Ridges. They played well in this game and deserved a better fate but that's hockey. Take on Port Hope On Saturday, Dec. 15, Toros played an exhibition game against the Port Hope Pee Wee team. Had they played as well Saturday they might have won this one. Scorers for Toros were Peter Hughes unassisted and Greg Martin assisted by Pete. In spite of the season long losing streak which Toros have been on, they are starting to show some signs of snapping out of the doldrums and are working hard. Perhaps motivation for the boys to play some inspired hockey and register a win or two Good luck boys. On November 16th, Scott Colonels Novice Toros travelled to Stouffville to play a well disciplined hockey club. The first period looked as though it would be a close game with Stouffville scoring one goal. The second period started off the first minute of play with a nice goal from Troy Mutton unassisted, but one minute later Stouffville came back to make it 2 - 1. The Toros seemed out of the game after that with Stouffville scoring 5 unanswered goals making the final score 7 - 1. On November 17th we played host to Oshawa Triple "A". Although we were beaten 10 - 2 we still have to give our boys credit for a well played game, considering how the team beat us the last time we met. Scoring for Bowmanville was Shane Armstrong unassisted and Troy Mutton assisted by Shane Armstrong. Playing strong on defence was Jeremy Laird and Scott Hanthorn. On November 18th Scott Colonel Novice Toros met the Oshawa Canadian Tire Black Hawks at the Darlington Sports Centre. The Black Hawks were the first to light up the score board, but it didn't take long for our Toros to make their mark with a nice goal by Steve Smith assisted by Shane Armstrong. Bowmanville scored twice in the second period on some nice three way passing from Jeremy Laird, Shane Armstrong and Troy Mutton doing the honors of putting it past the Black Hawk goalie. Tony Vanhoof also had that honor a few minutes later with Steve Smith and Troy Mutton getting the assists. The Black Hawks started to retaliate with 2 goals of their own, but Bowmanville's Captain Shane Armstrong fought back and put 2 more in for Bowmanville with some nice assists from Jim Pithie (2) and Steve Smith. Playing a good offen- sive and defensive game for the Toros were Ian Knight and Barry Edmundson. Honorable mention must be made to Mike Colborne who kep the boys in the game with some key saves. Final score 5 - 3. On November 23rd Bowmanville travelled to Cobourg to play a very tight hockey game against the Cobourg Novice team. Scoring the first goal of the game for Bowmanville was Troy Mutton assisted by Jim Pithie. Cobourg came back in the second period to tie the game up, 1 - 1. But not for long as our Toros went ahead again on a nice goal by Shane Armstrong. The third period looked .almost scoreless until 1:12 of the third period when Richard McCheyne made a nice pass to Ian Knight who passed it over to Shane Armstrong who dumped it into the Cobourg net. Cobourg came back with one more goal, but just couldn't get past our defenceman to do any more damage. Final score, 3 - 2. I would also like to welcome Steve Bizi, our newest Toro to the team. Steve will be an asset to the team.
