Burley Bus bines are opposing this request with the daiûm that they now hold the franchise for this area and are supplying adequate service between these twvo centres. The main conceru, we believe, is flot thie carrying of p'asengers between these two points, for sucli a se vice ,Nùuld hardly be a paying proposition. The franchise gives aý bus company flot oniy thec right to establlih daîly or weekly bus routes but also the right to solicit charter trips and excursions. The latter, in recent years, lias apparently become big business for many companies and char-ter ex- cursions are becoming more and more popular with an in- creasing nurnber of people. It does appear that thle Cha mber of Commerce letter to Colonial Bus Lines lias resulted in establishing better service with this Company for the Vilage and a directive bas been issued that the respective buses are to stop for passengers at the Orono junction. At the )present time Orono is enjoying an 'abundance of service to local and distant centres. A Look f0 the Future Defense M'ýiister Hiellyer has proposed what appears to be a realistic plan ta meet th~e demiands of the future for housing without cutting further into productive agri- cultuirai land. Unfortunately his vision wilI more than llkely be tmedwithin the political arena, at least for thte time being. Not only does the Mlinister's proposai proteet agri- cultural land on which we will depend for food1 production but it also would provide suitable land for building at a reasonable cost. !%,r. H-eilier contends that the ]and for uew eities would be goverrnment owned, thus eliminating spec- ulation and soaring costs. The land would be of a marginal nature but suitable for building. H-e believes that under such a sehemne the cost of a home could be reduced by somne $7000.00. We have always contended that this country was usïing land for building that should neyer have been taken out of service for agricultural purposes. Even in Clarke Township the greatest residfential development is taking *place on the best agricultural land. ~A few miles distance would ' take this development into an area of marginal land, yet uitabl1e for residential and iindustrial developmient. States Defense Mixnster IIellyer, "T'o convert prod~uctive land. in the province to urban living Would be a crime against future generations." The Defense Minister also states, "we have been left with a legacy of the uncontrolled fury fatmeglopis und 'ail its accomipanying ilîs." We cannot live for todlay onily, for there are counit- less generations ta follow, and mnany of our niear-sighted wrongs can neyer be corrected. t.Hi-C Report Che Hi 1l-s h eldthirreg- mutsOf' the last meetin un the Lteasur-er's report.
