Horticulture Holds Interesting ch rlstmea qàls F!,ow " cr >S1 0W 1The Christmas Show of the Or- :ono Horticultural Society was h'ýeld in the main hall of the Un- îted Church on Thursday evening, Pecember 14. Many novel ideas found 'ex- pression through the varlous ex- bibîts. Along with the Christmas' dis- play, we were pleasingly enter- tained by Mr. W. Bunting of the Dept. of Lands and 'Forests, who showed us two most interesting films. The first one was a Walt Disney Production sh6Wing "the wonders and beauties of nature through the miracle of photo- graphy in, a way most people nev- er see it. Seeds sproutîng, buds bursting, flowers opening, bees gathering nectar, spiders spinninli their webs, birds feeding their young, were just a few of the things magnifîed before our eyes. We were shown how in the f al the butterf lies and caterpillars prépare for winter. Watching the caterpillars devouring leaves, miakes it quite easy to understand bow - they can strip a. tree so quickly. The appropriate music,, designed to suit the actions we w,,ere waching, added greatly to ,the entertainment of this edu- 4ational film. The second film 'Seeds to Trees' was of great interest bec- ally as it had been filmed at the Reforestration Station in Orono "and a number of those in the pic- ture were local people. Most im- -portant, too, was the fact that .Mr. Bunting had written the script used in the film. This des- cribed ail the details invôlved %rom gathering the seed, cleaning -ewing, watering, weeding, until the time the trees are lifted,.and packed for shipment. It is înterestingý to niote tha«t the rono station started lu192 wvith 350 acres no w has 1350 ac- res andships approximately 8 million trees. Ail this work goes on practically on' our owni door -teps yet probably few of us re- aîlize the work involved or the contribution that is being made ,to the future of our country. Mr. Challice expressed a warm vote of thanks to Mr. Buntîng for the fine entertailument. Whie Mrs. T. Fairbrother judged the entries in the Christ- mas show, Caro1s were su ng with Mrs. E. Brown at the piano. The President aninounced that clude the election of officers and urged that there be a, good at- the January meeting would in- tendance. The meeting concluded with re- freshments served by the lunch committee. Prize winners were as foilows: Class I. "Christmas in the Country" - Mrs. Emil Schmid, Mrs. R. 'Chapman, Mrs. K.
