New Officers Elected To Orono Chamber On Tuesday evening the Orono Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting and ladies' night with forty present at Noone's, Restaurant. Mr. Edgar Middleto;; was elect- ed president o£ the Chamber for 1970 with Mr. Mel Downs as vice- president. Mr. C. L. Gunter was -1,.ted treasurer and Mr. Jake Rdsecretary. Directors for, Iiu are Lvessns. Matt Snelders, H. E. Milison, F. Storsbergen, R. Hazelden H. Hoensch, W. H. Car- man and P- M. Lunn. Mr. H. Hoensch, retiring presi- dent, thanked the Chamber mem- bers for their support during the year and stated that the Chamber had a work to do in the commun- ity. A good examille . . . 1 can think of no legislation in this century which advanced the rights of wo- men as did last years -amendments to the Estate and Gift Tax legis- lation. Yet I received dozens of letters and resolutions from wom- en's groups in the Riding denoun- cing the legislation. 0f course the proposais in the White Paper are not perfect. Many of them will bc,- changed. Just remember . . . they were draft ed to help the ordinary guy on the street . . . not the Presi- dents of Banks and Inisurance companies! G.P.P. Report Newcastle, Ontario The Newcastle Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police d,,ring the week of January I1th to January l8th, 1970, investigat- ed 18 Motor Vehicle Collisionsà in which 6 persons were injured and 10 charges were laid. Also investigated were 37 G ti- oral Occurrences during the same period of time. Four octurrences resulted in loss of, property by theft, and 5 crimînal charges were laid. Also, 2 person s have been charged with impaired drîving and 1 person has been charged for failing to take the breathal- yzer test.
