6-ORONQ WVE19KLY TIMES, SEPTEMBER 25th, 1974 Local horses and drivers started off' wel last week- when the first two races on Thursday evening were won with some influence fromn the local horse scene. In the opening race l3anker Ben finished first, jointly owned by Don Lycett andi Carman Hie. Belanho Dale second andi Roger Pete third. Junior West came out in the second race of the night te take the win with Jan Barmin in 2.10.4.This was the tenth start for the horse this year. Roweland's Lady second, Black Duchess third. Junior West returned i the fourth to finish third with Wee Albert behind Chatter Hal, first andi Rob> Ron Cy in third place. Gerald Robinson was fifth in the race with- Roger Ringo. Four local hersemen were. entered i the ninth race-of the night. SInglemnore took the win with Frank Stacey driving Ruby Parker finishing second. Junior West placed third with Canal View Way, Gord Irwin fifth with Carmen Cornet and Gerald Robinson sixth -with Josedale Tina. The tenth race was a big win for Frank Stacey driving -Tarport Setty to the win cirer the second place finisher, H'~ugh's Hlut. Tarpot Scotty is owned by James Phair of Orono registering its seventh win of the season. Saturday events started a win te Chatham Chip in the fi'st event of the night. Jack Williams driving Harwil Shirley owned by Shirley Williams and Garth MacGillivray had the horse claimed by C. Peakes of Orono. Harwil Shirley finished sixth in the race. Derek Newman placeti fourth in the fourth race with Homestead Express with Junior West right behind i fifth place with Firehili Blaze. *Gerald Robinson driving Arnibro Maiden finished second behinti Stewarts Battie ini the fourth event. Derek Newman placed third in the sixth with Vegas Bob, Phil War Abel first in the race andi Lees Land second. Junior West drove William and Larry Boyd's horse of Orone Larwil Don te a third place finish in the seventh race. In the eîghth race Jambe Ann took the event followed by Hoot Van driven by Geralti Robinson. Andy's Cornet was third with Junior West and Graham Burgess finishing in a dead heat for fourth driving, Geisha Richelieu and Roughshod respectively. In the feature race of the night goîng for a purse of $1,500.00 Junior West took top honours with his own horse Zorro Grattan. The -race went in 2.06. Second was Chocolate Cherry and third Arts and Batties. Zorro Grattan in twenty-six races this year has had eight wins, five second and four thirds and prior to Saturday night has won $6,324.00. Report The Newcastle Detachment ef the Ontario Provincial Police investigated the follow- ing motor vehicle collisions andi occurrences during the perioti of September 9th, 1974 to Septemnber 15th, 1974. Thirty-two moter vehicle collisions were investigated in which 13 persons were injureti and oue person killeti. As a result of these collisions, 10 persons have been chargeti with offences under' the High- way Trnffic Act, anti two persons have been charged. with driving offences under the Criminal Code. Dead is the driver of thec car, John Herbert Bi'odie, 82 years-of 244 Lawson Road, West Hill, Ontario. Injureê anti taken te the Bowmanville Memorial Hos- pital was the passenger of the car, Anges Brodie, 77 years of 244 Lawson, Rond, West Hill, Ontario. The driver of the truck was Leon Perron; Blainville Ter- rebonne, Quebee. This accident was invest- igated by Provincial Const- able K.C. Laton of the Newcastle Detachment of the Ontario Provincial.
