The runners from Bowmanville were a haîf hour late in arriving at the change point for the Clarke students on Highway No. 2 at the Clarke Darlington boundary. The run on Thursday was a preliminary to a Friday event which was held in each school to raise money for sporting activities, an event sponsored by the School Federation. Friday at the Clarke school 150 students took part in a race-a-thon to raise money for sporting activities. it is not known at this- time just how much was raised but the spirit of the event was calkd 'terrifie'. Silvia Ruegger was the top girl for the day completing 29 laps of fthe track withîn the hour, some 734 miles. Maur- ice Allin topped the boys with 32 laps of the track, 8 miles. The teachers were not to be outdone in the event with Miss Love cornpleting 2.1 miles. Mr. Cooper completed one lap on crutchies while Mr. Essex carried the head of the comimercial teachers on his back for a single lap. Timn Jenkins added a new twist playing the tuba for five laps. Ontario Hydro today an- nounced a proposed rate increase in the wholesale cost of electricity for 1978 averag- ing 11.3 per cent to the 352 municipal utility systems and about 12 per cent to 100 large industrial customers. The proposed change would be effective Jan. 1, 1978. On reference from the Miffistry of Energy to the Ontario Hydro Board, the rate proposai will be review- ed in public hearings in accordance with provisions of the Energy Board Act. ln a letter to the Minister of Energy ta the Ontario Energy Board, the rate proposal will hc re-viewed in public hear- ings in accordaace with provisions of the Energy Board Act.
