TRI KIN BU KIN For Kinsmen Dollars 1Mel Hartwig (left) is shown with Rick Martin the winner of the boys bike at the Orono Park after the Kismen Bike-a-thon. Some sixty people partici- pated in the bike-a-thon on Sunday Sixty-tWo.young riders did flot let the heat of the p'ast week-end discourage their att empt to help the Kinsmen in their fund raising project. Thirty-one boys and thirty- one girls compieted the 20' mile ride in the sweitering heat averaging about 5 hours per rider. SThe bike-a-thon left Nesting Furniture at about 9:00 a.m. taking the riders south past Morgans Corners to the Lakeshore which they foilow- ed up through Newcastle along the back roads to Orono and finaily ending Up at the Orono Park. Upon jeaching the park the cyclists were given a chance to fill theirempty stomachs with hotdogs and fruit drinks. A draw held after everybody had returned sent a lucky boy and girl home each with a new 10 speed bicycle. The winner of the boys bike was Rick Martin and the girls bike Kendra Kemp, both of the Orono area. At press time it was flot determined how much money was made on the venture. Kendra Kemp of Ochonski Road, Orono poses above with her winning from a draw heid after the Kinsmen Bike-a- Thon on Sunday afternoon. Anyone who entered the ride was eligibie for winning one of the two bikes drawn. The heat did flot seem to riders even after the 20 mile ous photographers. discourage this group of ride as they pose for numer- Funding included community room In speaking with Mr. Char- les Gray Monday norning he pointed out that the overal funding of $929,000,00 for the Orono Arena and Commiunity Centre did take care- of completion of the community room in the arena building. H1e pointed out that the present contract for $777,300. did not include the completion of the community centres room but that this work was considered in the extra costs of $151,700.00, that brings the total to $929,000. In the $929,000.00 expendi- ture ail funds from Wintario, 'ommunity Centre and Agri- cultural Grants were avail- able. The contribution from public donations lias been set at $263,000.00 of which amount $147,000,00 has now been raised. The completion of the community centres room said -Mr. Gray is now to be done iocaiiy and not through con- tract with the,.present con- tractor who had given an estimate of $67,000-00 to compiete the room. It is expected that the same work can be done iocaiiy for somnewfiere around $30,000.00. This saving, said Mr. Gray, wouid reduce the amount to be coiiected locaily through donations. IIYDRO HOLD-UP At the present time there is some deiay in the compietion of the project due to the arrivai >0f three three-phase tranisformiers for the com- plex. Certain works cannot be completed inside until an adequate supply of power is available. The transformers were or- dered in January and up to this date only two of the three transformers have arrived. Mr. Gray said the project - may be held up until the middle of July for compietion. The arena committee is now negotiating with the Ganaraska Region Conserv- ation Authority to be able to fi in part of the ravine to provide parking at the south of the arena building. Under a plan now approved by the Authority only some eight parking spaces are available. Un der a plan to fi in some 144 feet of the ravine close to sixty parking spaces could be completed and made avail- able for parking for the arena. *This is Bathing Suit Weather I Men's styles are in stretch denirn with smnall * pocket inside and top draw-string.
