Th1e ,chol n o abe preserved for thie future, is to be the symbol of the educat- ional system in the municipal- indled ity dating back over one hundred years. Mr. S.B. Rutherford acted as master of ceremonies for the program and presented a most interesting outline of community history and a look to the future. This address is included in this issue else- where in its entirety. Mr. Everett Brown who pointed out that bis family has been represented in the area for six generations and that a great great grandfath- er had served on the board of trustees in former, years, introduced Mayor Rickard and M.P. Allan- Lawrence to the gathering. He also read a letter from MI P.P. Sam Cureatz who was unable to attendthe ceremnony. Mayor Rickard brought greetings fromp the Town of ewateand paid tribute ta those who had worked so hard over the past ta bring about the reunion ceremonies and who have preserved a portion of thie history of Clarke Township by having t 'he foresightl to work for the public purchiase of the school Past to be used as a mnuseum in the future. Allan Lawrence, M.P. brought greetings from the government and, people of Canada. He said ihe was glad to see the school being preserved for the future and that in this area of Clarke there was a great deal of hîstory of former years. He said it was interesting to note that in the 1880s the rural population of Durham and Northumberland was three times that that exists today. Rev. Keîth Henderson pre- sented- the prayer of dedi- cation. A flag raising cerernony was undertakýen by Wm. Reid and grandson Willie Reid of Kirby followed by the plant- ing of a young maple tree by Mrs. Bernie Hlamm and the cutting of the centennial birthday cake by Mrs. H. Lowery. An old tyme f iddlers coi itest was won by Mr. Ch s,-rlie Taylor of Orono witli this event being followed by chiildrien's gaines, and a sing Song.
