The win-loss column now stands at 9 wins with 7 losses. Kevin Woodward on the mound for the Eagles took a win from the Bowmanville crew by a score of 9-2. Steve -West topped the Kendal hitters with a home run and a single wth John Robinson credited with two hits. Kendal had little difficulîy with Markhamn in a double header winning 13-7 and 21-2. In the 13-7 game Mfike Cor- neil was the winning pitcher supported by some solid bit- ling from Steve West with four, Kirk Woodward and Dwight Woodward with three each and two itters to Jimi Newton and Fraser Wallace. In the second game, a 21-2 route, John W. Robinson was the winning pitcher. Jerry Thompson secured three hits, Dwight Woodward rwo, along with two each for John Robinson and Guy Parks. It was Peterborough that put a stop 10 the Eagle's win- ning streak by taking the Eagles 4-2. Steve West went for two hits as did Mike Robinson. Guy Parks bit for a homerun. The E.O.B.A. Alil Star game was played in Kendal over the week-end with the West taking the East by a counit of 9-2. The -top defensive players of the game was Oshawa's Brian Roterly while the top offensive players was also from Oshawa, Clarie Osborne. Osborne won his honours with a home run in the Ken- dal park, tri Ieft field, with the bail only a short fifteen feet front the top of a pine tree. The MVP award was presented 10 Dave Merrith of Ajax. Kendal's Dwight Wood- ward came up with two hits to lead the east in the hitting department. With Orono con- îrolled most of the play in both the first and second half, but tbey just were not able to capitalize on the numnerous scoring oppor- tunities tbey had. Neîîing the markers for Orono was John Sotraitidis 1, and Darren Lewis 1 on a penalty kick, Orono returned home with a 3-2 victory over the Willowdale Park teamn front Oshawa on Monday, July 9. The Orono boys being short banded really bad a struggle on their hands, but with the excellent coacbing talents of Tony Wood and Bob Lewis the team pulled off the win. Tuesday, July 10, saw Orono hosting Thorn- ton/Dundee in a re-scheduled game from an earlier cancellation. The game came to a grinding haIt in a,3-3 lie. Thornton/Dundee scored the first goal and Orono Mhen had 10 play catch-up.ý About mid- way tbrough the second haîf, Orunu pulled ont and look the lead then beld il tl just a few critical minutes remained in the game, then Thorni- ton/Dundee netted one 10 lie il up. Orono Soccer team earns place to compete in finals The Oshawa Parks Soccer League held. a tournamnent on July 13, 14 and 15, at the Oshawa Civic Centre Fields. AIl four soccer fields were kept busy each day from opening lime until closing aI nigbt. There were fîve entries in tbe Banîam section, these being Willowdale, Kingside, Tbornton/Dundee, CGlen Stewart and Orono., The Ist game of the tour- nament got underway at 6:30 Friday evening, the teams meeting were Orono against Tbornton/Dundee on field number 4. When the final whistle of the game was blown, Orono'bad gained a vicîory wiîh a score of 4-3. 1 hýornton/Dundee wenî abead righî near the beginri- ing of the game, but after the start of the second haîf, Orono caugbî up and then pulled out in front wben it really counted. Our defense did a very good job on quick- ly getting the bail ouI of our end, tbis was the kind of ef- fort tbat was needed in order 10 win. Orono scorers were John Soîraitidis 1, Robert Klepac 1 and Jeff Vanhaverbeke with 2. In our second game Orono came up against Glen Stewart on field number 1. Orono again pulled off another bard earned win by a 6-4 score. Our boys had 10 come from behind in order 10 win tbis game. Il seemed at one lime that a lie was the best thbat we were going 10 gel, but the team setled down to some serious playing and now we go on 10 play in the cham- pionship game on Sunday. Our first goal was scored by Robert Klepac on a penalty shot, he also' marked up another one later in the game. Richie Dupe, Jeff Vanhaverbeke, Shawn Bailey and John Soîraitidis tallied one each for the team. On Sunday morning at 100:00, we were on field No. 1 waiting for the sart of the ch ampionship game against Kingside. The game.did not gel slarted until after 10:30 a.m. due to some delays'in the previous game. Orono worked hard but it just didn't pay off for the boys as they went down to defeat by a score of 3-7. The Orono team had numnerous shots on net, but were unable to find the opening to gel t hem in. .Scoring for Orono was Paul Henry 2 and Robert Kle pac 1 on a penalty shot.
