4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, Januiary 9, 1985 SPOTS Sommer West assists Roughley Tykes to win wifth two goals On Saturday, December 22nd Orono Roughley Tykes were hosts to Fenelon Falls-. Sommer West opened the scoring at 7:34 ini the first period when she took a pass from Simon Weagant. Four minutes later Sommer got her second goal of the game unassisted. Shawn Broome gave Orono a 3-0 lead to end the first period-when he pok- ed one in the right hand cor- ner of the net assisted by Bryan Haines. Andrew Burton picked up a loose puck at 9:48 in the se- cond period and put it ini the net. Bryan Haines got the last goal of the second period and the last goal of the game, assisted by Simon Weagant. Orono 5, Fenelon Falls 0. Orono Tykes travelled to Little Britam te, participate ini their Novice Tournamient. Orono Tykes proved they are a strong teain in their league as they won ail three gamnes they played and only had one goal scored against them that day. Matthews & Hill PeeWees take redge over ORONO 4 - WHITBY 4 Last week saw the Orono Matthews and Hill Peewees play back te back exhibition gaines agamnst Whîtby. The lst game was an ex- citing see-saw battie on Whit- by's home ice. Whitby open- ed the scoring 5 minutes into the gaine. Orono evenied the count just 2 minutes and 8 seconds later when Brian Rodd slapped in Jason, Brachvogel's rebound. Jeff Hartwig earned an assist on the play with his forecheck- ing. Whitby got the go ahead goal with Orono coming righit back to even it at 2 each to close out.the period. Dustin Reid, up from the Atoms notched this goal, when he received a nice pass from Jeff Hartwig and Brian Rodd and blasted in a high wrist shot which the Whitby goalie couldn't handie. Whitby scored the only goal of the 2nd period. Jason Bumnham tied it up again when he received a nice pass fron David Sheridan and fired a Iow w ýrist sh ot under a sprawling goalie. Not to be denied Whitby made it 4-3 midway through the period. Orono tied the game late nto the period when David Sheridan circled behind the net and set Todd Gray up. Todd made no mistakes and caught the top corner, glove. side. Final score Orono 4, Whitby 4. ORONO 4 - WHITBY 1 Whitbyv travelled to Oronoc this time and wr sent hiomne with a 4-1 defeat. The visitors drew Iýst blood late nto the lst pe-riod. The!re was no scoring in the 2ndý period with both Lteaîmsgt- ting their hncs OronQ peedthe 3rd Whitby in exhibition peri od with David Sheridan receiving a beautiful pass fromn Todd Gray, skated in unmolested and fired a hard wrist shot between the goalies legs. Jason Burnhami did the bull work on the play to earn an assist. Up to this point, it was a see-saw battle. However the Matthews and Hill boys ex- ploded with 3 goals in just one minute and fifteen seconds to salit away the vic- tory by a 4-1 count. Todd Gray started it off wýhen he received a nice pass from Mike Goodmurphy and Brian Rodd and fired a high wrist shot that the Whitby goaltender couldn't handle. (2-I Orono) Jason Burnham received a beautiful pass fromt David Sheridan just seconds later and gained a clearcut breakway. Jason made no mistakes when he checked the goalie and slid a backhand shot into the fat corner. Jason Brachivogel earned the assist when hec stole the puck from a Whitby player and relayed it to D)avid. Todd Gray puit the icing on the cake when hie gained a clear cut breakaway and scored into the empty net after the Whitby goalie was, lifted for the extra atacker. Jeff Hartwig and Mike Goodmurphy played strong games for Orono with Jason Major playing one of his best games of the year. DOURO TOURNAMEVNT Onl Dec. 2th thie Matthew\Ns and Hill PeeCWees travelled to Warsaw to participaie iii their tournament. Our first game maýtched us upr aginst aa urd s'kating Waswtean. Jst8 seconds into, the gamt eTodd Gray defensemien and snapped a low shot between the Warsaw nietminders legs. David Sheridan and Jason Burnham combined to eann the assists on the play. At the 7:00 minute mark Todd notched his second goal. Again Jason Burham and David Sheridan combin- ed some slick passing to set Todd up. Warsaw fought back however with a goal of their own to make it 2-1 at the end of the period. Dustin Reid put Orono ahead early unto the 2nd stanca when he scored a pretty goal after somne great pressure around the Warsaw net. Brian Rodd and Jim Part- ,ner earned assists on the play with their constant digging.- Warsaw fought back gamnely with a goal in the 2nd period and one more with just 44 seconds rem-ainung ini the game to lie it up at 3-3. Orono however held on and advanced into the champion- ship round becauise they scored the last go ahead goal of the gam. ason Adey, Craig Nemnis and Jason Brachvogel played their hearts out to aid the cause. MARMORAS5- ORONO I The Matthews and Hill gang took on a team from Marmora ini the 2nd round. It looked like Orono was goung to blow, the opponients right Out of' the rink when they gr abbed the early lead. Jeff H artwig was the marksmian wh len he received a nice pass from Brian Rodd and slipped the puck into the far corner of the net. Dustin Reid eannied anassistby get- ting the puc:k to Brian. Orono put on great prsur or thle lst two prosand otpayd hir Chris Yeo plays with 'hot stick' to notch five against Ennismore c assist from Steve Shetiet again. Then at 44 hi caught his breath and Blackstock sneaked another puck passed John. With Chris still catching his breath, Timt Hallowell scored a lovely uinassisted goal. Chris came back for his 5th and final goal of the gamne at 0:21 with the assists comung from Steve Shetler and Jeff Wilson. 1 knew that Chris's new stick was full of goals but 1 think we should ask where they foumd such a powerful kind of stick. Maybe the whole teamn could beniefit from this. Any tips Chris? During the second perind our littie Power pack, Chris Yeo scored two goals. The first one he scored at 13:20 with the assist comung from his sidekick Steve Shetier. His second one was scored at 7:15 unassisted. Ini the third period Chris scored again at 13:13, again unassisted. At 6:48 Chris galvaized the goalie with 'q ONTARIO H IGHWAYS... WE KEEP THEM OPEN. YOU KEEP THEM SAFE. Oni Friday, lin. 4th, tihe Orono Tri Cournty \toil gang hiosted Enismiçior-e for- a make-up gamne. The Score was tied at 3 a piece. Scott Hall tended goal for Orono and did a Aonderful job of it. Ennismore came out fighting, and at 5:14 of the first period they scored on1 Scott. Not to be out done Steve Shetler, as;sisted by Chris Yeo pumnelled one past Ennismrore's goalie at 2:27. Once again Ennismore foughit back and scored at 2:08. At 4:19 of the second period Ennismore moved ahead of Orono. Chiris Yeo, flot wvanting to be outdone scored a ,vonderful goal at 9:20 assisted by Camn Tomkins and Neil Haines in the third period. Then, after a lot of hard work and perserverance, Jarret -Prescott scored the final and tieung goal wvith assists going the Chris Simpson and J.P. Tousignant. There was only one penalty in this gamne for roughing to Ennismnore. On Saturday, Jan. 5, mora came on strong ini the- 3rd and tallied 5 unanswered goals to win the contest by a 5-I count. Thanks to Jim Partiier and Dustin Reid' who came up from the Atomns and played strong gamles. Billy Todd and Shawn Hardy shared the goaltending and were very sharp.
