Simser said he was looking for direction from counicil as to the project and their assistance in planning the proposaIs on Town owned land within Bowmanville. Mr. Simser said the club wished to erect a sign at the Soper Creek park noting that the club had donated the pro- perty to theTown some years ago as piark land. The Orono Downitown Business, Association is holding its first "Lighting of Christmas" this Thursday evening with participation from all businesses in the Downtown area. A number of features halve been included in the promo- tion including coralling by a group of young singers fromn the Orono Public School as well as the Brownies and Guides. All participating will be provided with Merry Christmnas balloons and their programs are expected to start at 6:45 p.m. and con- tinue after seven within the business area of the Village. At the hour of seven o'clock aIl stores will be turn- ing on the lights of their win- dow christmas decorations and this event will be herald- ed by a Town Crier. In appreciation for the general publics attendance al Downtown Orono stores will be offering a ten percent dis- count on most items in 'their stores from the hour of six to nine o 'dock. Hot cider will also be available in ail stores in the Village along with cookies. The young singers will be served hot chocolate in the Orono Town Hall following their caroling in -the downtown business section. The wînd-up o f the evening will be a Christmas Cabaret in the Town Hall where hot ciîder and cookies will be serv- ed and a musical program featuring local talent wil be presented! Individual tables are to be setup for those attending and everyone is invited. The program will be pro- vided by a group of James and Doreen Lowery, Carlos Tamblyn and Rev. Fred Milne as well as songs by Janette and the big band sounds of the local Orono Generetic Gems.. Coun-cil holds firm as to opening;road Counicil of the Town of Newcastle held firm on a decision made in June of 1984 as to the opening of a sideroad between lots 22 and 23 in the 6th concession of Clarke Township following a request through a petition for its op)ening. The petition was.presented by Fred Obrist who owns Preperty midway along the sideroad and who hias rePeatedly asked that the uinopened road be improved in order that he could make suitable access to his property from the sideroad. The Towmn maintains the road is an unopened road as according- to Towin policy does not qualify for improve- mient.
