iNewtonville Alive k.1 by Pesgy Mullan Rob and Denise Bryan of Newtonville will celebrate their first wedding anniversary January i1lth. Not only was 1989 a wonderful beginning to their marriage, but it also marked the first year in Canada for Denise. When asked how she would sum up this very unique year, Denise beamed. . ."It has been marvelous, truly marvelous!" "I have been over several times before to visit my aunt," Denise ex- plains. "She and Rob have worked together for a number of years. 1 guess it was meant to becthat we would meet, though it wasn't love at first sight," she chuckles, "but, well you know the rest!" The couple has been busy renovating, entertaining and travelling about. Both agree the time has flown by. Rob added how he has done so many more things this past year that hie probably would not have if it wasn't for his bride. "Even to picking uip her Irish accent!" hie exclaims. Some of Denise's "firsts" in- clude seeing our beautiful faîl col- ours, having real maple, syrup, tasting pumpkin pie, a White Christmas, her first Christmas tree, an even paddling a canoe. She added that althougli she misses her family and bier parents farm in the countryside necar Belfast Northern Ireland, she absolutely loves Canada. "The people are lovely in Newtonville, and 1 feel as though Rob and 1 have had our home here StirIing elected Board Chairman Durham Colle ge Dorothy Stirling, of Oshawa, was elected Chair of the Durham Col- lege Board of Governors at its December 13 meeting, succeeding Bob Fair of Port Hope. Mrs. Stirling is a graduate of the University of Toronto, and was a secondary school teacher for several years. She has been active in community affaîrs, and is a past President of the University Women's club of Oshawa and District, and a past ChairoU the Oshawa Public Library Board. [n- a memorable candlelight service, the- four graduating Brownies recited the Guide motto and promise, accep- ting their indîvidual scarves, pins, handshakes and welcome from District Commissioner Marion Knapp and leaders Anita Newman, Jan Dengis and Angela Devonish.
