4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 24, 1990 SPORT J&M Framing Tykes win over Bowmanville On Saturday, January 20, 1990, Orono Tykes defeated Bowmanville V.I.P. Hairstyling Tykes by the score of 3 to 1. Both teams had several good chances, but a strong game in goal by Jamie Party and some fine defensive play by Tyler Robinson enabled Orono to win. After a scoreless first period Orono scored first on a goal by Justin Standeven assisted by Christopher Bouley, to end the second period with Orono leading 1-0. In an ex- citing third pericid Bowmanville scored first to tie the gaine at 1-1. Then Orono scored the winning goal on a nice passing play between Greg Shetler1 to Justin, Standeven for the score. Roughley, Tykes play to dec with visitors On Saturday, January l3th the Bowmanville "IDA Drugs"' Tyke tearn visited Orono to play our Roughley Insurance teain. It was a good gaine ending in a 4-4 tie. Bowmanville scored first with the only goal in the fîrst period. The scoring really opened up in the se- cond period however, as combined, the teamsý scored five times. Orono's Bobby Witheridge scored the first two Orono goals. Bowmanville put the pressure on in the third period and it was only through some good saves by Orono's goalie Greg Bester that we were able to hold thein to two goals. Orono had some fine scoring chances as well but could not get the puck over the goal line. The final score again was a 4-4 tie. Later that evening Orono travell- ed to Bowmanville to play their Skylight Donuts teain. This is Bowmianvîlle's number one Tyke teain and it showed as they blasted us in a 10-2 defeat. Bowmanville scored three turnes in the first to get off to a good start-but then fired five more pucks into the Orono net in the second period. By this time our boys, possîbly a bit tired froin our earlier game, were Iosing hope. Goaltender Greg Bester, on only his second outing in goal, was starting to feel a little shell shocked. To make things even worse Bowman- ville scored twice more in the third ând by this turne had an insur- mountable lead. It wasn't as if Orono didn't have several good chances but the Bowmanville goalie was playing a super game and kick- ing out everything we shot at hum. This past Saturday, January 2th, the Bowmanville "A & R Flooring" Tykes were in town to play ouir Roughley Insurance teain. Our boys put on a very fine perfor- mance and when aIl was finished had a 4-2 victory. The first period was scoreless as the two teains felt each other out. Early in the second. period Bowmianville got things started with their first goal. Jamie Parry put Orono on the scoreboard on a fine goal assisted by Paul Landers and Kyle Moore. In the third period Paul Landers scored first assisted by Michael Gibson and Jamie Parry. Shortly after Matthew Reid scored his career first assisted by Michael Gibson and Jamie Parry. Bowmanville came back to score a goal late in the period. There was still time for one more Orono goal, however, as Paul Landers moving nicely up the right-wing boards ran into heavy traffic and fed a beautiful pass to Jamie Parry in the open. Jamie went in alone on the Bowma.nville goal firing the puck past the sprawling goalie. The period ended with Orono chalking up a 4-2 vîctory. There were some very good individual efforts, put forth in this gaine by ail the Orono boys. Bobby Witheridge put on a fine performance in the Orono goal, especially early in the gaine to keep Bowmanville down to only two goals. Keep up the good work boys.
