The Region must give approval for the purchase of three new trucks at a cost of $300,000 each with the province picking up onie-third of the cost. Oshawa construction boom continues Oshawýa construction for the sixth consecuitive year broke the $100 million mark. The city issued $169 million in permit values last year.. Metro council signs dump agreement with Durham Metro counicil has signed a deal with Durhamn Region to use a pro- posed new Regional dump near Whitevale for some 4.7 million ton- nes of residential garbage. Metro would use the site from sometime in 199260o 1986 when a new permanent dump wvould be available. The City will pay $41 million up front. The committee is made up of three provincially appointed members and three members fromï counicil. 347 charged with alcohol related driving offences Ontario Provincial Police during the. past holiday season stopped 248,591 vehiclesý in their annual R.I.D.E. (Reduce lmpaired Driving everywhere) program. 0f that number 347 were charged for alcohol related driving offences. A further 857 were issued with 12 hour licence suspensions. Not to spray for Gypsy Moth this year The Ministry of Natural Resources has ruled flot to spray in the Ganaraska Forest this year for the Gypsy Moth.,Certain areasý of the forest had been sprayed in the past two yearsý. The Ministry f'eit that it was flot required this year athough there are some areais infested. The Ministry said thiere are somie areas that could withstand 50 to 60 per- cent defoliage. Jim Tedford of the Ganaraska feels there is a need to continue spraying in the forest.
