President Doreen Lowery welcomed those in attendance and Councillor Diane Hamre brought greetings from the Town, of Newcastle. Diets were forgotten about after one saw the variety of delicious casseroles and desserts on the buffet tables. The head table guests were in- troduced by president Doreen Lowery: John Finlay, represen- tative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Office in Bowmanville; Vicki Lesnîck, Assistant Director of District #17; President Doreen Lowery and bier husband James; Treasurer Adele McGill; Secretary Carol Mostert and Chairman of the Beautification Committee Cor Mostert. We enjoyed' the entertainrnent provided by the Jean Simone Danc- ing School and were delighted to see the talent of these young girls in their demonstrations of jazz and tap routines. To show our apprecia- tion, president Doreen Lowery presented Jean Simone with a plant and Lorna Atkins gave each dancer iarose. A draw was held with packages of cheese as prizes, which were donated by Warkworth Cheese House. Roses for the table ar- rangements were donated by Mostert Gre enhouses. Local businesses donated articles for the 'Igoody bags." Several presentations were made on behalf of the Orono Hor- ticultural Society. Doreen Lowçry presented Carol Mostert, retiring secretary with a gift and Lorna Atkins presented a gift to Doreen Lowery, retiring president. The slate of officers for 1990 was presented by Lawrence Staples and the new executive was installed by assistant District 17 Director Vicki Lesnick. The new executive of the Orono Horticultural Society for 1990 are: President - Donna Hutton; ist Vice President - Mrs. Jo Harris; 2nd Vice President - Mrs. Cornie De- Jong; Secretary - Mrs. Yvonne Trafford; Treasurer - Mrs. Adele McGill; Youth Leader - Mrs. Min- nie Zegers; Directors for one year -Inez Harris, Jo Harris, Minnie Zegers, Lawrence and Vera Staples and Thelma Gilbank; Directors for two years - Clifford and Eleanor Terrill, Cor Mostert, Thelma Vagg and Shelley Etmanski. We welcome Donna Hutton as the 1990 president of the Orono Horticultural Society and wish Donna and her executive a suc- cessful year. Press and Publicity Lorna Atkins Orono Public School is proud to present "The Wind in the Willows," on Thursday, February 1, beginning at 9:30 a,m. The story is by Kennieth Grahame and is one of the best loved stories of ail time. The characters are Mr. Toad, Rat, Mole and old Badger. The play is designied to test the imagination and reinforce the children's interest in reading. It is forty-five muinutes in length. The ac- tors use masks with mime dialogue and beautiful costumes. by Lee Nowak This weekend the Orono School Volleyball teams will be par- ticipating in a Kinsmen tournament at Bowmanville High School. Fni- day, February 2nd will be the boy's team playing and Saturday, February 3rd the girl's.teamn plays. So far the boy's team has played with the following results: Orono over Newtonville 3-0; Central over Orono 5-1; Lord Elgin over Orono 3-1. This is a list of the boy's volleyball team: Lee Robb, Jason Benford, Jake Todd, Wade Peacock, Scott MacDonald, Deepak Angle, Ryan Winning, Shawn Davies, Scott MacKay, Owen Taylor, Jamie Kent, Danny MacDonald , Collin MacDonald, coaches Mr. Stewart and Mr. Leith. So far the girl's team have played the following teams: Orono teachers over girls 3-1; Orono boy's teamn over girl's teamn 3-1; Kirby and Orono tied 2-2; Orono over Central 2-1. On January 29th they play Newtonville at Orono School, resuits will not be in time for this ar- ticle. Pleads for Hampton bridge (Continued) Council did pass a motion that the issue be referred back to public works for a further report on what might be done. It had been suggested that CLOCA may provide the land for'-a single lane bridge. The director of Public Works said he could not recommend a bailey bridge installa- tion.
