Grant Yeo, president, conducted tbe meeting at whicb directors were appointed along witb the receiving of reports from various commit- tees and a rev'iewý of the annuial financial statement. There wýas also a video shown of the 1989 Queen of the Fair contest whicb was celebrating one of its aiversaries at the fair. Garnet Rickard \ýas con- gratulated for bis sponsorship of the event. Receipts for the year amiounted to $1 10,558.67 with expenditures at the $109,151.22 mark. The balance as per thiestatement was $1,407.45 with some $547.00 in outstanding receipts yet to be received. It was pointed out at the meeting that there bad been a good increase in exhibitors at the 1989 fair. The Junior Department reported a great increase in exhibits in the depart- ment. AIl other reports were at a normal level for tbe fair. During the course of tbe meeting the fair board gave approval of a rentaI agreement for tbe horse barns setting a staîl rental at $17.00 a montb. The board is also to establisb a committee to liaise with the horsemen as to the other pro- posal which had been put forth by a number of horsemen wbo were pre- sent at the meeting. Bill Greenwood spoke of possible local sponsors for the demolition - derby wbich Iast fair beld a great deal, of interest with local drivers entered in the competition. Green- wood pointed out that the board coulcl make more money through local sponsors. Many of the new features at the 1989 fair wîll ýcontinue 'again this year such as the car show which at- tracted 102 e ntries along witb some farmi tractors. AI Barnard said they were hopeful that at the 1990 fair they could encourage more tractors to the display. The pbotography and wood- working departmnents expect to ex- pand for 1990 beyond that of their introduction in 1989. Firmn bids have yet to be received and as well the location of the tile bed for holding tank. 1It was stated at the meeting that the Town of Newcastle is holding an amount of $11,000 for the washroom construction and that would be available for sucb con- struction in 1990. This amnount was in the Town's budget for 1989. 'The new washrooms would be located east of the new Agricultural building. The board of directors will meet on a montbly basis from now until fair time in early September. The Fair Queen Traci Myles was present at the meeting and spoke briefly. Joyce Boudreau, Kendal, is tak- ing over as secretary-treasurer for the board due to the resignation of Karen Yellowlees.
