Edhte Kinsmen to be con gratulated The Great Pine Ridge Kiknsmen and Kinettes certainly put forth a real effort resulting in an outstanding Bike-A- Thon and Rodeo promotion for the kids last Sunday at the IGA parking lot. It did have a carnival flavour and from our vantage point both parents and kids were enjoying themselves. And there was good support from the community for the sponsor- ing group which always makes the job of promotion a littie easier. And most of the money being raisedi through the Bike- A-Thon and theefforts of the kids goes to the school the in- dividual attends. The, cardboard box village was a novel idea and here again it was the sehool children who put ail the effort into the scheme. Unfortunately it was just too windy to be put in place and to expect it would remain together. 1The Kinsmen and Kinettes are to be congratulated and we do hope to see this promotion in Orono again next year during Heritage week and also in recognition of participac- tion. Sad news for Orono The announcement, last, week of the closing of Curvply Wood Products as of July 28th was sad news idea for this community. The plant starting in 1949 as a one-man opera- tion did grow through the years offering job opportunties for those in the community and for many it was the bread and butter operation for the entire family. It became part of the community life as did for many centuries in Newcastle Village the J. Anderson Smith Box Factory. Curvply did expand duringý the years to become the major supplier of curved plywood in ail of Canada. As it pro- spered so did the community and those in the community. Unfortunately as we march into the global arena of trade and communication added pressures are placed from al sides on those "small is beautiful" operations and for many reasons times become much more difficuit. There is 'something to say about the community that works together, lives together and plays together. It becomes more difficult in a global arena. But Orono is flot alone and a recent report on events in Eastern Ontario are even less bright than that in this com-* munity. Letter to the Editor Being a conservative alrny adult life, (36 years) it is with a great deal of sadness and sharne that 1 arn writing this letter. But the time has corne for me to speak out against the dîctatorship of Brian Mulroney, 1 and people like me gave Mr. Mulroney the mandate to serve the people ot Canada, we did not give himi the mandate to becorne a dictator. -His arrogance and the comrplete disregard for the demnocratic rights of the people concerning the G.S.T. is for mie the last straw. i-le is a dî.sgrace t0 the Tory par- ty, and a poor excuse for a Cana- dian. Surely there is sornething wrong with this country when me of honour and integrity (the two M.P.s lrom Alberta) are treaied like whip dogs by lying Brian, for having the courage Io serve the peo- pie by voting against the G.S.T. The G.S.T. is completeiy unfair and gives Mulroney and Wilson the licencs to steai frorn the people anytime they want. But hope springs eternal, we can stop the G.S.T. î.R.A.T.E. citizens of Peterborough have a petition oui frorn the Senate of Canada, if you are agaînst the G.S.T. please sign it. If there is not-a petition in your area, contact î.R.A.T.E. citizens of Peterborough, K9i 7H7, Box 1473. 1They need.ten million signatures to give the Senate the mandate frorn the people to, stop this hideous tax. The Senate is there to, serve the people, if we ignore the Senate ihen wedeserve the ditaiorship of iying Brian. Yours sincerely John Welhain Kendal Hall News. Now as I write this the suni is peaking through under the clouds and the wind has just about gone. Ransomi gave the 'Children's Story, illustrating it witb different coloured balloons. On each one was a different name, he told how they ail ived in a plastic house and one was named Happy, one gave a message, each one different. At the last there was one that wasn't biown up and it was sad, it carried the name Peter, he then went on to tell them of how a m~an pîcked up Peter, blew him up and let him go, this made Peter happy, he could fly. Then he blew huim up again and by holding him by the open end made him talk, hie then put the balloon in his pocket and took it to a party, there he used Peter to entertain the guests, then a little girl came into the roomi, she was feeling sad, the man blew up Peter tied the balloon, and gave it to the girl. She played with it and even took it to Church with her, where everyone had balloons with Pentecost on them. Peter then felt he belonged and was happy. 1ýhe children then sang along witý Bryan, .'We are the The Chjgrch welcomed Ken McKinnon 'to Memnbership and Baptism of Troy Alan, son of Cin-' dy and Alan Webster took place. Pastoral Prayers, we were V sorry to learn of the passing of JottYr Stone. Rev. Ransorn based his Ser- mon on the Spirit of God is on the Move, he used the saying, 'Catch the Spirit,' which we hear often on radio and on 'T.V. He told of Shadrack, Meshack and Abednigo, who were told they mnust worship other Gods or be thrown in the firey furxiace. They would not-worsliip these Gods so were thrown into the furnace, when the furnace door was opened and the three should have beeni burnt to death, they danced out of the furnace, their Faith in God had saved them. The act of Baptism just doesn't take place without ail sharing in the Faith and the Spirit of God and our belief in God. We don't have to be great leaders, we only have to be ourselves and God will stimulate us to believe in our Faith, we will catch the Spirit. by P. Lowery ORONO ?ASTORAL CUARG~ Minister: Rev.
