Tenth annual juried show of fine art SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1990 OPENING RECEPTION: September 9, 1 - 4 p.m. The Board of Directors of the Visual Arts Centre is please to an- nounce the TENTH ANNUAL JURIED SHOW OF FINE ARTS. This year's opening will be extra special, with musical entertainment, refreshments, and special guests. Entries are coiming in from across the province, and once again com- munity support has been substan- tial. The juror this year is Toronto ar- tist Jane Buyers, whose widely ac- claimed etchings, constructions, and multi-media works have earned her a Canada Council Paris Studios Grant, representation by Garnet Press, and exhibitions in many public galleries. She will be present at the opening. Everyone is welcome to attend the opening or view the exhibition during regular hours at the Miil. Bowmanville Museum plans bus tnp The Bowmanville Museuam Bus Trip this year is to Gravenhurst, on Saturday, September 29, 1990, where we hope to recreate the feel of the late Victorian era. Our first stop is to the NORMAN BETHUNE HOUSE. A beautifully restored home, c. 1890, where Dr. Bethune spent part of his childhood. In an adjacent building, displays and a video will be presented on Dr. Bethune's remarkable career. The second stop is to downtown GRAVENHURST for lunch (not included in price). Centre fal The Family Education Resource Centre of Durham House Child and Family Centre has their fall pro- gram of parent education and fami- ly enrichment study groups and workshops ready to go. The eight week, nine week, ten week and twelve week study groups being offered in Port Perry, Oshawa, Enniskillen, Bowmanville and Newcastle reflect the communi- ty's request for specific programs for parents with teens and basic parenting for young families. The workshops respond to specific re- quest from the community. Readers are invited to register for a eight, nine week, ten week or twelve' week study group or a workshop on a subject of particular interest to them. The choice is wide with something for everyone. Babysitters' Training Course: Be- ing offered Oshawa, Bowmanville -Young teenagers will learn how to be responsible and caring sitters. Each student will be required to complete six hours of practical work during the course. Effective Parenting: Being of- fered, Oshawa, Port Perry, Newcastle Village - A discussion group for parents focussing on understanding children's behaviour and learning positive and practical skills for redirecting misbehaviour and encouraging children. Building Your Child's Self Esteem - The fostering of self worth is a central challenge for parents Making changes A group for aduit children of alcoholics The purpose of this group is to elîp Adult Children of Alcoholics nake changes in their lives by pro- shops and restaurants to visit. Our final destination is to the R.M.S. SEGWUN for a two hour cruise. This ship is 103 years old and is still powered by two original coal- fired steam engines. Refreshments will be served on board, and the tour should be enhanced by the beautiful fall colours. The air-conditioned coach will leave Bowmanville at 8:30 a.m. and will arrive back around 7 p.m. The cost is $40 per person ($37.50 for Museum Members). Recovery Issues of Adult Children of Alcoholics - This two session workshop will focus on adult children of alcoholics' recovery issues and how these affect relation- ships with others at home and on the job. It will be of interest to those who grew up in a family that was affected by alcohol, in one way or another, and also to those who wish to know more about adult children of alcoholics' recovery issues.
