8-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, October 10, 1990 Kendal Column Sone of the nearby residents' of the Kendal area took a bus and boat trip on Monday, it was a very nice day, a little cool on the deck of the boat, but otherwise very enjoyable. We left Orono j.ust before fine and after picking up passengers in Newtonville and Bowmanvîlle, we travelled to the, shores of Stoney lake where we boarded the boat. We spent two hours on the lake, the colours on the shores, were beautiful, seen from the boat, parts of the lake wcre surrounded by the green of the evergreen trees and off- shores the coloured deciduous trees. We lunched at Viamede Inn, then went to Curve Lake to the Whe- tung Art and Craft Gallery. Altogether it was a very interesting and enjoyable day. I have no doubt everyone has by now seen the signs on and around the ski hill, they certainly catch the eye. Well, Thanksgiving weekend has once again corne and gone, and when one watches the news on the TV, we realize that here at home, we have much ta be thankful for. On sunday, there was a good turn-out at Church, it was good to sece some of our former members present. Mr. and Mrs. Skerratt were back visiting. It was a pleasure to see the choir loft 'full and sounding so nice. They sang the song "Let there be Peace on Earth". Rev. Ransom based the childrens story on Thanksgiving Day. He asked them if they knew what day we were celebr ating, they ail knew, but. when asked what they did on Thanksgiv- îng their answers were based mostly on 'their favorite foods and that they had visitors with them. Bryan explained to thern that it was the day to thank god for al things, lots of good food, good health, for our families, the Church and for Peace. He told them to think of the Challice, put all our blessings in it andI it would overflow. We should give thanks to God every day of our lives for ail of this, not just on Thanksgiving. Pastoral prayers werc said for al the sick among us. A special offer- ing was taken for the Bruce family to help them while their little daughter is recovering from surgery at Sick Children's. The Sermon was entitled, "Thanksgiving, a work of liturgy." Rev. Ransom spoke of the reports of the Yolanda Ballard demands, as ta the amount of money she needed to cover the costs of her lifestyle. She itemized everything, but no mention was of money for charity. Sh& and her lawyer had taken great time te list ail of ber needs. Paul, took great time aiso in making a list. He reminbled the people of their strcngths and their wealth, of how God provides them with abun- dance, for every good work. Nothing is donc by aur hands, -but by God's hands, we give thanks on Thanksgiving Day, but not the rest of the year. Paul rerinds us, if We scw sparingly, wc reap sparîngly, if we give with abundance, we shal reap with abundance. God secs that through his abundance ta us, we may help others. Communion was served to al present. Following the Church Ser- vice, a shower was heltI in the Sun- day School roam, lunch was served and a time of fellowship followed. Gifts were presentcd ta Gien and Hope Foster, who wcrc marricd'in the Kendal Church on Saturday, September 29th, many of thcir familics were present.
