The praject is ta encourage parents ta read ta their children out loud and taO begin at birth ai the child. Although the prajeet has been appraved in committee à must now be appraved by the board. The praject has been estimated ta cost $900.00. Cathie Carleton, a teacher at the Howard Jordan Public School in Port Hope, has masterminded the program. She wilI undertake its operation with the assistance of a group of volunteers. Under the program information packages would be distributed to new mathers encouraging them ta read ta their children. The packages would include the program's philosophy and objective s and as well suggest books for the new born giving information on library availability and a story book. 0' Some 600 hundred packsewould be needed for the initial run. These would be distributed thr ough prenatal classes and through the area hospitals. hl has been noted that children who have been read ta out loud can be observed when they start school.
