4-Orono Weekiy Times, Wednesday, April 10, 1991 Yo ut h ÏSoccer report Free Soccer Ret'erees Ciinic With the soccer season fast approaching mhe Darlington Youth Seccer League lias organized a free clinic fer soccer referees te be held at Orono Public School gymnasium at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th. The clinic for anyone over 12 years of age wiil be conducted by Mr. Gerd Arrowsmith a FIFA referee for Canada. Soccer coaches may also attend. Mini soccer will once again be played by mhe Tykes ( 5 and 6 year eids) this is a six a side game, played on a smaller field, al emer players will play full eleven-a-side soccer. Players and parents should be'aware mhat for the 1991 season ALL players must wear shin protection pads, covered by stockings and shirts must be wom tucked inside the shorts, the Ontario Seccer Association have adopted these International rules net only for mhe protection of mhe players but for insurance purposes. Referees will net permit unprotected players ente the field of play. Coaches are needed for many of mhe local teains, if you can heip our- young people as a coach er assistant coach please contact ypur local convenor. Orono Novice Hockey news Well, here it is, our iast entry for' mhis season. The boys last exhibition game ef mhe season was March 25th against Ornemee. Orono was eut scored 4- 1, but even so, they played extremely well. Orono's goal was scored by BobbyWitheridge who was assisted by Tyler Robinson and Michael Garlick. To end mhe season in a big way the team entered one last tournament in Ennismore, March 29th and 3th. To begin the weekend -the boys faced Richmond Hill. Tyler Robinson, unassisted, scored Orono's only goal. The opposition unfortunately netted 7 pucks. Game two found Orono playing against the Ennismore team. The spectators were treated te a very competitive game. Orono scored i the first period, off the stick ef Tyler Robinson and again in the third period from Bobby Witheridge. Orone fouglit hard fer mheir victory over Ennismore 2-1. Nice work boys, a well deserved wmn. The third gaine of the tournament was against Peterborough Miner "Petes. This teani lived up te their name and downed Orono 5-1. Orono's goal was scored by Greg Shetler, assisted by Andrew Beacock and Cliht Hawkshaw. This season certainly lias been busy for oui Novice hockey team. 1 hope they had as much fun playing, as we did watching. And se ends this years Novice hockey saga. March 26/91 Orono hosted the N.A.S.C. Selects of Oshawa i an exciting and quick pace gane. Orono remained dominate threughouL most of the gaine te defeat their-visitors 4-2. Goals were scored by: Mark Foster, Derek Arnold, Frank Van Overloop and Allen Lacey. Assists went te Johnathan Burnham, Allen Lacey, Frank Van Overloop, Drew Hansen and Mark Foster. March 28/91 Orono hested Grafton in another exciting gane. Both teans played quite well but Orono kept control of the puck most of the time. They defeated Grafton 4-0. Goals were scored by Frank Van Overleop, Drew Hansen, Allen Lacey and Derek Arnold. Assists went te Derek- Arnold, Frank Van Overloop, Johnathan Bumham, Drew Hansen and Scott Ransberry. Goalie Jeff Goodmurphy eamed himself a shut eut. April 2/91 Orono were hests te Langer Pee Wee Teani of Oshawa and once again Orono cane through with anether wm,. Orono started eut slowly with the visiting teamn taking-the lead. Shortly after Mark Foster assisted, by Drew Hansen scored te tie the gamne. Oreno camne on streng during the last five minutes of the first period. The visiters scored again te ge ahead for a short ie then Orene scored two more goals te take 'the lead and keep it. Both goals were scored by Allen Lacey assists went te Johnatha Burnhamn and Drew Hansen. In the third peried Orono dominated for the mest part and scered another three goals. They went te Derek Arnold, Allen Lacey scering his thid te earn anether hat trick and Mark Foster. Assists went te Jolinathan' Burnham, Drew Hansen, Frank Van Overloop and Scott Ransberry.
