ToWfl Counc!il HELLO NEWCASTLE! by Peggy Mullan .5. 111 Clarke Museum on the Road After successfully runs in Peterborough, Fort Erie and London, the Clarke Musem and Archives highly acclaimed Provincial Travelling Exhibition - "IN REPOSE - VICTORIAN FUNERAL CUSTOMS AND PRACTICES" is heading North. The show wj be on display at the Massey Area Museum from April 9 - May 1. To date the Exhibition has been enjoyed by 6040 people àcross Ontario. In addition "IN REPOSE - The Slide Show" continues to be the Museum's most popular programme used by schools and groups as well as being a feature presented through the Ontario Historical Society, the Royal Ontario Museum and this November as part of a very special series hosted at Montgomery's Inn i Etobicoke. On Saturday. April 20 the Clarke Museum Board of AgaiMen Directors will again be hosting the Annuai Reception. IIL briefs . 6 The Generai Purpose comrunittee of the Town of Newcastle has referred three applications for further study by the planning department and reports back to commnittee. Included in the three is a developmrent at the corner of Liberty Street South at Baseline Road which involves a proposed 6 storey, 89 unit condominium complex and 436 metres of retail floor space. A 24-unit plan of sub-division in the Courtice area as well as a commercial development proposai on a site on the norti side of Hlighway 2 just east of the Townlie Roati in Courtice. An application by Mr. and Mrs. Lover, 59 Mill Street just north of King Street i Newcastle Village to zone their residential property commercial was denied. .It was poited in a staff report that the application if approved would be piec.emeal planning and that a Main Central Area study is to be undertaken to meet the future need of commercial zoning in the Village. The study will be part of the process of the new Town of Newcastle Official plan undertaking expected to take two years. A proposed commercial zoning on residential property by a Mrs. Layng, 61 Mill Street was also denied for the same above reason. An application by Glyn Jenkins for a rezon ing to allow storage, FORUM RESTAURANT STEAK and SEAFOOD "INOW OPEN" ý-111 lir 0 & 0 display and sale of truck accessories was given approval. The application was on behalf of Camsport Truck Cap Sales and is located at the OLCO gas station on the west side of Highway 115 just noth of the third concession line. Approval was given to a Rezoning application to recogniýze an existing car sales operation at the corner of Church and Silver Street in Bowmanville. A site plan agreement is to meet the requirements of the Town of Newcastle before final agreement is signed. ......... An Ontario Municipal Board hearing is to be held in July over the issue of a proposal put forth by Participation House on a site in east Bowmanville on Concession Street. Town staff had recommended approval of the proposai while council members hiad voted the proposai down. The decision will now becnmade by the 0MB. There was a 45 percent decline in housing starts in the Town of Newcastle in 1990. During the year housing starts included 5'77 single?link units along with 175 multiple units. A report to council also noted a supply of 16,363 lots available, being existîng, approved applications and applications under review. It was noted at the meeting this is about a four and a hall year supply. In industrial lands the Town bas a supply for 20 to 24 years.
