In the words of grade 8 student Cherie Siy . . . its purpose was to collect money for the grade 8 class trip and to pull together their act, cooperation and teamwork was to be seen everywhere. For everyone the talent show was a way to display hidden talents and fmnd new ones. It was a way to explore your imagination and bring it forth at the same time blending it with the thoughts of others. During ail this time, many people brouglit new meaning to the word "teamwork" and cooperation. Each act was filled with a wonder ail its w. . ." Upon entering the filled to capacity gymnasium, one could readily feel the hum of excitemnent in the air, and i the hearts of each and every parent and visitor present. The "Star Bright" Talent Show unfolded with an opening prayer -and a proud singing of "O Canada", led by Miss Pellerin's grade 1 class and Mrs. Schillings grade Ys. Kicking off the entertainment, talented Christina Ryckman performned a- piano number entitled, "Old Joe Clarks Boogie." d aressed in costumes of ýraids, sea creatures and ewers, performed "Under the inrougnout tne snow were excellent performances of singing, dancing and creative "rap." Three graduates of Bowmanville High School have been named Canada Scholars of federaI Minister of Science William Winegard. The students are Kenneth Hay who graduated with a 97.5 percent average and who is now eiroled in aerospace engineering at the University of Toronto; Ryan O'Neill who graduated with a 93 percent average and who is enrolled in honours science at Queen's University; and Marianne Toman, who graduated with an 87.3 percent average and who is studying aerospace engineering at Carleton University. Created by the federal govemment in 1988 to encourage Canadas best students ini the fields of science and techniology, the programi awards $8,000 over four years to outstanding students in science and engineering disciplines at Canadian universities and some community colleges. About 2,500 scholarships are awarded annually and are dîvided equally between men and women.
