The outcome didn't look bright with Little Britain tallying a three- run homer in the opening inning and held their lead until the third framne. But in the third Kendal scored two runs to add to the single counter in the second to tie the gaine. It was a bonanza for the Eagles li the sixth when eight rns crossed the plate to put Kendal i the lead and a further assurance of the win with two more runs in the eighth. Greg McIsaac was the winning pitcher with 9 strike-outs and giving up 10 hits to the Little Britain batters. John Robinson made his mark at the plate for the Eagles with a grand siain followed by a two- run homer by Dan McNeil. The rest Of the teain cbipped li with their bats to mun Up the count. Queen s Park report froin Gord Milîs The next two weeks in the Legislature will be the last before the Sunimer Recess. The last sitting day for the Sprihig Session is June 27th. Due to delays li dealing with business brought about by the Conservative Party, the last couple of weeks will entail the house sittig until midnight. On a personal note, 1 do not relish the prospect of sitting i my place for 10 and 1/2 hours every day for the next two weeks, on top of my other duties. Last Monday, 1 was i Orillia to open their 9-1-1 system on behaif of the Solicitor General. There was a great crowd on hand to witness the very first 9-1-1 cail made for the area. The City of Barrie bas yet to get their system in place. lI my speech I was able to joke, based upon my experience as a former Alderman for the City of Barrie, that this was the first turne to my knowledge, that Orillia had beaten Barrie te the punch. My turne at the Legisiature last week was divided between debate in the house and sitting li the Justice Committee. In comxittee we are putting the final touches to a Conflict of Interest Report. Our recommendations wil forin the basis for legislation to be introduced at a later date. The recommendations centre around the guidelines to be put in place governing company and land holdings, by members of Cabinet and Parliamentary Assistants. Thursday was perhaps the most trauniatic day i the house for me to date. We were ail very upset about the events of the day that involved Ann e Swarbrick and Shelley Martel., I feel that their letter of complaint about a doctor convicted of sexually assaultig children was neither corrupt or illegal. Both ministers apologized to the premier, the goverrament and ail members of the legisiature for their errors li judgement and offered their resignations. I tend to feel that the public will be in support of their actions and will share the outrage and distress of the women froin the doctor's community. Marion Boyd, Minister of Education, announced two aduit literacy prograins last week. $28 million to Ontario Basic Skills at 23 commnunity colleges in 100 comrmunities which will provide a range of training in reading, writing, math, science and computer skills to grade 12. in addition to that program, $3.7 million to allow labour organizations, NGOs, employers and employee groups to provide basic iiteracy, numeracy and science training at 250 worksites i the province. The availability of this training will do much to prepare adults to compete in the work place of today., On Saturday, I had the pleasure of opening the new fire hall in Janetville. It seemed to me that everyone living in the village was there. I any event, the community is to be highly praised for their support of this new facility. Everyone, the Reeve of Manvers Council, the council members, the Fire Chief, the volunteer firefighters, ail deserve a high vote of confidence from those they represent and serve. If we could encourage the type of community spirit shown i Janetville ail across Ontario, we would be on our way to resolving most of our problems i the provice. On Sunday afterncon, I attended the Druin Head, Service with Branch 178 Royal Canadian- Legion, in Bowmanville. As an ex- military man myself, 1 enjoy the comradeship found in ail legion functions. Following the parade I went up to Port Perry to bring gcod wishes to Mayor Howard Hait and his wife Lulu, on behaîf-of the Government of Ontario, on the occasion of their 40th Wedding Anniversary. There was a huge tumnout to honour Port Perrys poputar Mayor and bis wife. Till next week - be kind to one another. 0f ALL THE DRIVING SCHOOLS YOU CAN CHOOSE, ONLY ONE HAS 400 000 STUDENTS TO RE ICOiY(END UT.
