r 6-o~~ Weekly Times, Wednesday, Auguat 14, 1991 Stan Teo and Charlie Anderson. The Village of Newcastle seems grateful already for the opening just 6 weeks ago of the Newcastle Auto Centre & Body Shop. SNewcastle residents Stan Teo and Charlie Anderson, both mechanics opened up their shop July 2, offering the latest computerized equipment to handle virtually ail general repairs, with a specialty in wheel alignments, with a computer body shop facility. Stan Teo ran bis own general repair shop in Toronto for seven years. The time came a hitle over two years ago, when Stan, his wife and their two young chiltiren had enougit of the cîty. They found a new home in Newcastle. Charlie Anderson, originally from Newfoundland, also, tired of Toronto, moved to Newcastle just about the same time. As luck or fate Sumac crea tes beauty The common, shrub-like North American sumac has a remarkable family history, so states a report in the Better Homes and Garden, WOOD magazine. Certainly Most people are familiar with local variety of Sumac that survives along the roadside and in the fields. It is colourful in the fall. But the list goes on and on. Ini Japan the sap is extracted from an Oriental variety to make procelain-like lacquer. In South America another variety provides the world with the tasty cashew nuts. The wood of the Sumac d-oes provide some incredible colours and pattemns. Alternating green and gold- growth rings create an astonishing hue. When quarter-sawed the sumac stock resembles zebrawood. The Sumac being flat sawed provides a swirling, eddylike character. Carvers take advantage of sumnac's distinctive grain to produce projects with the look of multi- layered laminations. And, under black light, their would have it, Charlie and his family found a home in Newcastle right next door to Stan. The re'st is history one might say. Both men were working together in their backyards before long. When the opportunity arose to se e their dream come true with th eir own shop, the pair took i t. Stan and Charlie welcome everyone to stop in with their inquiries or problems with their vehicles. Their hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, or caîl 987-7223. Newcastle Auto Centre & Body Shop is on the' corner of King Street (Hwy. 2) and Beaver Street. We hope to see an officiai openîng of the Newcastle Garage this fall. "Good Luck!" carvings take on a new character as the luminous wood glows with almost supernatural brilliance in shades of lavender, yellow, chartreuse and paie blue. Whappers coming out of Port Hope Those fishing in the Port Hope area out i Lake Ontario are making their mark i the Toronto Star Great Salmon Hunt, Recently the top catch weighed in at the Port Station took sixth place inthe over-ail event of the Hunt. The catch weighed in at 35.32 lbs, a Chinook. Another area catch took eleventh place for the week. The Chinook was but four pounds- lighter -tian the winner for the week. The 39.5 pounder currently holds- the record for the overail hunt. Will flot force amalgamation The province of Ontario will flot force amalgamation on those municipalîties in Northumberland County. The County is in the throws of reorganîzing into a unit similar to the regional systemas. Previously the province had stated that those centres with less titan a population of 4000. Although the province will flot force amalgamation there is a matter that costs could rise for taxpayers in the area that opt to stay outside of amalgamation. Participatory democracy- seems to fait Hamilton Towns hip recently sought interested taxpayers to take part in advisory cômmittees for varions aspects of the townships operation and a review of the systeM. Response was poor and only six taxpayers had applied to be part of the process. Historic find at St. Mark's church Members of St. Marks Church in Port Hope have been pleasantly surprised wîth a find at the churcit entrance which was being renovated. Workers uncoveredpointed arch-style doors on either side of the main entrance. The architecture had been covered up which was popular in the l8th and l9th century. The church was built in 1822 and has been i use ever since, the longest period of time for any other churcit in the Anglican Church of Canadas Toronto diocese. No doubt it will again become prominent for the front decor of the building, Used Sales Safet Prop From Around The Region THE BEST ARCHERY SHOP Archer Sales and Service Complete line of Bows, Arrows and Accessories for the Bowhunter and Target Shooter Owned and Operated by a member of the Professionai Archery Association P.A.A.
