Many birds depend on people to feed themn and supply them with fresh water during this time of year. in winter, you should neyer let a bird feeder go empty - flot even for a day. once birds start flocking to your feeder, they'l1 depend on you to keep it well stocked. It's also a good idea to put out some warm water in a dark dish. Although there are several types of feeders on the market today, you may prefer to make one yourself. A simple one that you can make at home is a pine-cone feeder, First, wrap a pice of string or yarn around the top of a pine cone. Next, coat the cone thoroughly with suet or lard (youi can also roll it ini birdseed to make a tasiy mixture). Finaclly,, tie.thie string to a high branch or clothes- line where cats and dogs can't reach it. Remember to check the feeder every two or three days to ensure that it stili has food in it. 1You'l1 get hours of enjoyment watching birds flock to your feeder on a crisp winter day - just when you thouglit ail wildlife had disappeared until spring!
