Chris Conti bas told council that uncontrolled devclopment pressures in Durham Region, upstream from Port Hope, is threatening the watershed. The advisory committee wants their council to ask the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority to prepare a watershed, -working with local municipalities, t0 control development. This motion was received and will bd discussed by Port Hope council. Conti bas said if development pressures continue to increase thie effects could filter down 10 Port Hope. Conti points t0 the natural importance of the river as weil as its considerable commercial value to the Town. Housing starts away down Housing starts in Cobourg and Port Hope in 1991 were down from 1990. Permit fees and lot levies in Cobourg amounted t0 $ 104,000 which did not cover Uic operating cost of the building department. In 1990 the Town had collectcd a sum of $324,000.
