The Premier wil speak on the Constitution shortly after 6 p.m. Council Briefs The Town committee approved White Ribbon Week for the People Against Pornography. Carolyn Newman said the organization feels that they have te become more vocal in their fight against pornography and the declaration of the week was one of the ways to meet this end. The committee recommends the construction of a proper laneway into the Kirby United Church off the concession road. The work is to be undertaken with the assistance of the Ministry of Transportation. Sub-division applications for the Town of Bowmanville continue te corne before coundcil. Committee approves a further 50 lots in a Penwest Development on the west side Mearns Avenue south of Concession Street. Committee recommends a name change te Bennett Road to that of Wilmot Creek Road and the process be undertaken by staff, The Town's Dog pound is seeing and increasing number of dogs and cats being purchased at the pound for pcts. Must hasten downsizing at GM The directors of General Motors Corp. have called upon GM chairperson, Robert Stempel to stand up to the United Auto Workers union and speed-up the downsizing of General Motors. GM lost $7 billion US last year in their North American operations. Newtonville United Church will celebrate its l2Sth Anniversary withi a special service on Sunday, October 25, 1992 at 9:45 a.m. The service will be conducted by newly-inducted minister, Rev. David Black. The guest preacher will be Rev. Dr. John May of Harmony United Church, Oshawa. Special music will be provided by the "Country Four" a well-known quartet from Newcastle. All former living ministers and their spouses have been invited to returfi for the occasion. A lunch will be provided following the service.
