Hectic playoff sohedule for Major Plumbing April 5tb marked gaine 1 in an 8 gaine BRI{L round robin playoff format for Major Plumbing Atoins as they hosted Pizza Pizza ai Orono arena. Bodu teams put on a fine dîsplay of what playoff hockey is ail about -- a tight cbecking two-way effort with superlative goaltending and a resulting 0-0 score! Major's Dusty Stapleton and Pizza's Mike Luxton earned the shutouts for their respective teains. April 6 saw Major travel down the road to Newcastle arena and visit teain Hutton for game 2. This outing exbibited a much superior offensive display for Major as they defeated ibeir opponents by a 6-1 score. Major put in a strong effort however and with a lîtile luck could have easily had a couple of more goals! I fact, wbaî appeared to be a third score midway tbrough the third frame (as signalled by one referee) was disallowed by the other wiih no apparent explanation! Winger Clint Hawkshaw îallied Major's first marker from defenceman Mike Knox and winger Jonas Bonnetta at 1:41 of the furst. At 9:31 of the second frame Winger Mati McGlynn slid the puck home on the open side on a nice feed froin centre Greg Shetler for Major's only other score. April 8th Major travelled to Bowmanvile arena for game 4 as ibey visted cain Carnation. Major took control early in ibis contest and skated away to a 4-2 victory. With 54 seconds left in the first, winger Mark Fletcher opened the scoring as he took a Greg Sheller feed in the slot and one-timed it through the pads of a surprised Carnation goaltender. Matt McGlynn picked up tbe other assîst as he started the play down bis wing. At 9:43 of the middle frame Jonas Bonnetta banged ini a Brandon Caruana rebound to the open side with Clint Hawkshaw regisîering ibe other assist on the play. Cainspori finally took the Toros end season at Thornhill tournament The, Bowmanville Minor Bantam Toro hockey team, sponsored by the Bowmanville Kinsmen Club , rounded out their season by taking part in the 6th annual tournament in Thornhill this past weekend. The team was without their Captain Greg McMurter and also Matt Staley who were both in Finland as apart of the Markham Thunder team. Also missing from the team was goalie Jeff Parry, who suffered a back injury in game # 4 of the playoffs against Newmarket. The Toros looked a littie stale in the first period against a London team that came out skating hard and it showed, as the London team scored five unanswered goals before the Toros finally got themselves together and scored twice in the middle period to make a game of it. London scored twice more niear the end of the game as the Toros were pressing to try and win the period. In game two, the Toros looked much stronger and were tied at 1- 1 entering the third period. A goal by Hillerest right at the beýginning of the period meant that the Toros again had to press for the tying goal and were unlucky on a couple of breakaways flot to score. An empty net goal made the final score 3-1. With game 3 flot having any meaning to the Toro team, the intensity was flot there and the team from Calgary had no problemn in beating them.
